One of the Most Under-Rated 3D Fighters of All Time!!!

Post by artphotodude »

After King of Fighters Maximum Impact, I had pretty much decided to give up on SNK 3D, but then recently found a copy of King of Fighters 2006 for the PS2.

This game is Freakin' AMAZING!!!!

A massive roster of very unique and capable fighters. Each having 16 costumes and tons of great modes and challenges. Also, many of the fancy tactics like super-cancels and such are very doable and the game really takes the speed and action of the 2D series into 3D without loss.

Anyone still playing PS2 (who likes fighting games) should really find a copy of this. To get every costume can take weeks - a lot of replay value!!

Systems owned: SNES, Virtual Boy, Saturn, PSOne, N64, Dreamcast, Vintage Mac iBook (on OS9), PS2, XBox & XBox 360. :D

agreed on this one. I have a copy of this game for PS2 and it is the updated version of the previous KOF: Maxium Impact. I've played both version and the second is much better.

I'll have to get that game some time, it sounds like fun! I don't really like 3D fighters that much, but their is some great ones out.

Is this really good?

If so I may buy a copy, I've wanted another KOF game but hadn't wanted to pick up the 3D ones as I'd heard some mixed to bad reviews and opinions on them.

Plus from the posted pic the game looks to be in a sort of cel-shaded style which I like.
My Consoles:

It is not cell-shaded, but the graphics are really nice. Not quite Tekken, but easily as good as most other 3D games and many of the outfits are a super wild and funny. I would say this is a NO BRAINER for any fans of KOF or other SNK fighters (also has some great Metal Slug stuff too). Best of all, it is set before all the Ash Crimson crap entered the KOF series.

Cool, from whenever I've seen copies it's pretty cheap, so I'll probably pick one up next time I see one.

Ugh. Not a fan.

I suppose if there were no superior KOF games this would be fun but considering there are 10 years of better titles...I just don't see the point.

I liked this game a lot too. It was exciting at the time to have a 3d king of fighters. Maximum impact was meh, but 2006 felt like it was sped up a bit and when I actually played it I found pulling combos off to be a lot of fun. The massive roster of characters was also great.
