Coincidence right after atariage had to stop selling another of the trademarked games?

Maybe?

The biggest turn off for me is the wired controllers (and no 5200 support, obviously). I have an Atari Flashback 8 Gold that does everything this does except allow me to play physics carts, but also allows me to use wireless joysticks. It’s kind of baffling to me that the controllers for this are wired, honestly.

The controllers will work in an original system, I think. And original controllers will work with this.

I'm fairly interested in the new 2600+. I don't have a way to play 7800 games yet. $130 doesn't seem too bad for what is essentially a new 7800. My only concern is that it needs a 4:3 mode. The listing just says "Widescreen mode for modern TV's". Will it keep the aspect ratio for the games at least?

Here's some info from the FAQ at the bottom of the product listing: Atari 2600/7800 compatibility list

So it's an emulation box that doesn't play games directly off the cart, made by a 3rd party not Atari, and flash carts aren't supported. Pass

Damn. I was stoked when I saw this, but emulation isn't desirable. Guess I better unshelve that Sears Telegames walnut WIP RGB mod. I got distracted waiting for the NES multi-out to arrive.

Hm ... Does it temporarily dump the cart, then act as a simple emu box?

I saw the price tag & lost interest so haven't dug in much.

I do really enjoy the 7800, and I've had bad luck with that HW multiple times.

I like the Retron 77 idea but always thought it was a bit strange it was 2600 only. No modern way exist to play 7800 carts I'm aware of.

Dumps the cart. Emu box.

Guess that flash sale on atariage was for a reason. Atari owns atariage now.

To be fair ... didn't either the Retro Freak & Polymega/Retroblox do the same thing? Not sure on Retron 5 or other Retrons. Those Might boot directly from cart.

What's the AA flash cart drama? Missed that.

I like the 7800 factor ... but emu of that console is just so easy. If I still had an existing 2600 or 7800 collection, maybe a different story.

[Edit/Add]

Well... to answer my own question, it looks Albert literally sold Atari Age to the current Atari. I assumed it was figuratively, not an actual sale. Wow, interesting turn of events there...
