Why is everyone selling everything right now?
Why is everyone selling everything right now?
Seriously. I'm mostly a lurker on here but it's still the only internet place I go to. In the last month at least three very prominent Racketboy members are dumping huge portions of their collections. Tons of other people on here are clearing stuff out in a major way.
What's wrong with you people!?
Are you going emulation? Getting out? Moving strictly to VR and Hearthstone? Noise, Mjmjmjmj, Barnes, I hate to call you dudes out but you're all makin me nervous here.
Do you know something I don't?!

I vote mid life crisis and everyone is starting to do other things with a fat stack of cash.
I also believe the CRASH is less then 10 years away. We will all be old men and no kids will want our stuff.

Probably a combination of people moving to emulation and getting out of the market while game values are still high.
Re: Why is everyone selling everything right now?
I recently got rid of all Dreamcast and Wii games due to great SD and USB loaders. I still have that damn nostalgia for NES, GEN and Saturn stuff though.

I imagine because the market value of so many games, even common games is high. There is a decent pay off for all the years of collecting.
Also digital is really starting to get its hooks in.
You have come so far from the gameboy loving freak you once were, so proud of my new PC loving freak.

I'm going 100% PC.

Re: Why is everyone selling everything right now?
1. Me personally; no. I am def. playing more PC, particularly Hearthstone, but i'm only clearing out SAT / DC stuff I'm just not playing very much.
2. The market is DEFINITELY more BUYER heavy than seller heavy currently. Every forum i'm on has less selling activity than in years past and when good items come up, or good prices, things move very quickly. This is assuredly part of the reason ALL prices continue to climb across the board.
3. There are MANY dudes on Atari-Age and KLOV in their mid to late 50's. Many dudes on Neo-Geo; PC Engine FX and Arcade Otaku in their late 30's to early 40's. These forums have hundreds of active gamers / collectors still buying and collecting stuff. When you consider larger more active forums like NintendoAge are still growing and their core membership are mid to late 20's; I think we are probably 15 years from a slow down and 20-25 from a crash when the twenty-somethings (the now toddlers) don't have the memories we have as it'll all be digital. Even my kids at 6-13 yo all have memories of playing / collecting Wii / Wii U / 3DS, etc.
4. mas Noise sells his collection once and for all every couple years.
5. I saw barnes sale thread. No N64. No GCN. No Wii. He isn't selling the good stuff.

To be on to my last frontier of retro games: arcade PCBs.
6 year old me would be proud.

They've betrayed us.
I love throwing out junk and old stuff thesedays, but my game collection is still sacred and I don't really ever see that changing. But I guess that's the perk of being a gamer, and not a collector. I beat most of my collection and it's still mostly confined to my one mega shelf, so it's not ridiculous. No offense to others here, and as many here seem to enjoy the collecting aspect itself which is completely fine (whatever makes you happy!), but keeping it in check might be a good trick here.

There is some good stuff up now and better stuff is coming. I just couldn't get it typed up in one day.
