1. Double Dragon (NES)
2. Super Aleste (SNES)
3. Perfect Dark (N64)
4. Wave Race 64 (N64)
5. Shantae (GBC via 3DS VC)
6. Ristar (MD via Wii VC)
7. Bangai-O (DC)
8. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSP)
9. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)
10. Metal Gear Solid 2 (Vita)

2nd game down.

I've just had one of the most rage filled evenings in my gaming life. about 3 hours spent hurlign abuse at the TV over Wave Race 64's expert difficulty.

Let me start by saying that I liked Wave Race 64's gameplay quite a bit. The physics feel just right, the courses are interesting and the graphics and music pretty fitting and not bad looking for the time.

However, fuck the cheating cheap bastard asshole AI in expert difficulty. When the computer isnt driving flawless lines at impossible to catch up speeds, they're ramming you about from behind, and falling off your jetski once in most course costs you the race. They'll also rubber band like crazy if they fall behind, but never seem to slow down if you fall back some places.

They knock you off the ski a LOT. A fitting comparison for this would be Mario Kart. In Mario Kart you'll be bashed about a lot, you'll sometime lose races due to being screwed over at the end of a lap. There are crucial differences here though. In Mario Kart if you fall behind you get good items to help catch up. In Mario Kart if you get screwed over you might not come first, but in Wave Race you might not be able to even carry on to the next track. In fact, you can even be first on the score rankings, but if you dont have enough points, nope, game over for you. It's a stupid mechanic. And in Mario Kart you have access to the same capability to screw your opponents over, whereas in Wave Race your opponents are immortal flawless beings who exist only to be an arsehole to you.

I only managed to get through expert by fluke. A hard fought win on the 5th track had me thinking I would finally have enough points to finally qualify for the last race, only to find out that you need enough points to qualify for the podium ceremony too - even though you've already finished the races. Despite being in first by a landslide on the scoreboard, I managed to earn enough points overall to JUST qualify.

My final expert mode race results over all 8 races? 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th, 1st, 1st, 4th, 4th

My reward - the announcer guy saying, as condescendingly as possible 'YOU ARE A GRRRRREAT WAVE RACER!' Fucking hell.

Despite my rage fueled rant, I like Wave Race well enough. I can;t help but feel though, that the game would be exponentially improved by adding a 'kick David Mariner in his fat fucking face' button.

Argh I forgot about Zelda II's asinine save system, which doesn't save any XP accumulated en route to a level. Just flushed about 1000 points down the drain... By saving. Not saving to turn off the system, mind you. Just saving to save. This is why I need to stick to sleep mode.

Not counting the CDI jokes, do you think it qualifies for worst Zelda game?

ah yes. I'm one of the rare breed that loves Zelda II... but it is no doubt a very flawed game.

I'm going to be really busy this coming weekend (sadly) so I won't get to play much. So for now, I'd like to just post a bit of an update of what I've touched and made any progress on and my thoughts.

Aliens Versus Predator I played 10 minutes of just to sort of see what it was like. BTW, I'm really only planning to play the Colonial Marines route for the challenge. Because as a fan of the franchise, I love being a marine and killing aliens. My first impression is "holy balls, this game looks scary!"

Sonic 3 & Knuckles I've played for a while on and off. I'm playing as Sonic. This seems to me by far the most frustrating level design of the early Sonic games.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is a brutal, buggy mess. But I totally love it. It's (so far) the gem of my picks, as funny as that sounds. I'm at the Centaur bosses, and they're insane. I need a break from TRA this weekend haha.

Wonder Boy In Monster World I left off at the boss in the mines that CFFJR gave me the tips on. I gotta say... I'm not convinced about any hype I've heard about this game. It looks nice, but I don't find it controls all that well. I'm not giving up, and I hope the game proves my initial impression wrong. Though I have played two or three hours now.

Agh...finally made it elfheim in Final Fantasy I(decided to tackle this once more because I couldn't focus on any game in my sega genesis collection disc). The save feature helps in this so much(don't know why in the version on psn there's not a similar save feature, thought it was supposed to be a port of this). Still a little thrown off on this one's encounter rate sometimes...sometimes I can go a good 15-30 steps or more with no encounters and then all of a sudden it's down to 2-6. Going to be so glad when I finally finish this one...

May give crystalis another go but I'd have to plug my gbc cart in the gbc player. Don't know how much playing I'm going to get in this weekend though. Going to try and pull a all nighter so by lunchtime tommorrow i will sleep pretty well before going in for my second day...so will probably devote my attention to getting as far as i can in final fantasy I.

So far, yes. In fact I'd say this is the only Zelda game that I don't consider to be "good."

I just wish it was as good as Final Fantasy II.
