Such a great puzzle series! My first exposure was Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and I loved Puyo Puyo Fever on the Dreamcast. So many great ports and sequels on so many platforms. Highly recommended!

Together Retro: Puyo Puyo
Re: Together Retro: Puyo Puyo
I have Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, which was my first exposure to the series too. I loved it as a kid. I also have Puyo Puyo Fever on the Dreamcast, which is also really addictive and fun.
Good choice for Together Retro! I might play through both.

Yep, Mean Bean Machine for me too. I played it to completion (on normal) back in the day on that Sonic ClassIics 3-in-1 cart.
Anyone play Tecmo Stackers (PS1). It's pretty similar, but easier to combo.

yo! Thanks to the new Steam Workshop integration of the Sega Genesis games, there's a mod that'll revert Mean Bean back to the Japanese Puyo Puyo!

Re: Together Retro: Puyo Puyo
Puyo Puyo Tetris is great! I imported it a couple months ago for PS3 and it's super fun, granted the 'Puyo Puyo Tet-mix' game mode is hard as nails, especially for someone who's bad at Puyo Puyo as much as me Xp
My first exposure to the series was when I misread "avalanche" for "adventure" when I was very young, and bought Kirby's Avalanche thinking it was just like Kirby's Adventure 3 on SNES. Being so disappointed that it was a puzzle game, I really didn't have time to enjoy it back then Xp

I got a copy of Puyo Puyo Sun for the saturn a while back so I'll give that a go. Not a series I know much about aside from that it was massively popular in Japan.

Re: Together Retro: Puyo Puyo
I actually have 2 games ready to play this month.
This one:

And this one:

The first is basically a PC Engine CD port of the original from my understanding. It's also balls hard - I've beaten both Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Ghost Trap before, but both are way easier than this!
The second is a version of the sequel, Puyo Puyo Tsuu, which I wanted to try because it apparently fixes a lot of issues I have with the first, such as how an opponent's big combo can instantly screw you over.
Should be a good month.
Do people recommend Puyo Pop Fever?

More of a Dr Mario and Puzzle Bubble guy, but I love games like this. Mean Bean is awesome.
Re: Together Retro: Puyo Puyo
I've got a few ways to do it.
- Mean Bean Machine on the Gamecube's Sonic Mega Collection (NOTE: I did play (and complete) Kirby's Avalanche back in the day, so this is probably the purest form and very similar to that)
- Puyo Pop Fever on the Gamecube
- Puyo Pop on the GBA
- Mean Bean Machine on the Gamecube's Sonic Mega Collection (NOTE: I did play (and complete) Kirby's Avalanche back in the day, so this is probably the purest form and very similar to that)

only the first one you mentioned is Puyo Puyo. The other two are sequels.
