Welcome to the third Racketboy Together Retro Runner-Up Match Up. All of these categories almost won a few months ago, and now they’re back again for one more chance at glory (in, appropriately, this November’s second-most-important election!).

July, 2020: Games that Require Strange Peripherals
dsheinem wrote:The definition of "strange" here is meant to exclude light guns, musical instruments, mice, and trackballs and instead encourage you to use "strange" controllers made for specific games (like Rez's vibrators, Steel Battalion's control panel, the SNES Life Cycle Entertainment Bike, Odama's microphone, etc.) or playing regular games with "strange" controllers (e.g. using the Sega Activator in Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom with the PS1 Ascii Grip, etc.).
August, 2020: Rhythm Games
MrPopo wrote:All things requiring you to do stuff in time to music. Maybe it's pushing buttons, maybe it's dancing, maybe it's pretending to be a DJ.
Recommended titles: Parappa the Rapper, DDR, IIDX
September, 2020: Konami & Capcom Off Action
PartridgeSenpai wrote:Konami and Capcom were the kings of 8-bit and 16-bit action games, sure, but they also had tons of games that weren't action games, especially in the 5th console generation and beyond. This category is about looking at the forays into non-action titles by two publishers/developers best known for their high energy games.
Possible Entries:
- Vandal Hearts
- Breath of Fire Series
- Suikoden Series
- Shadow of Memories
- Ace Attorney Series
October, 2020: Horror RPGs
Ack wrote:While RPGs run the gamut of possible themes and tones, a few have ended up entering the entirely horror space. Not only have some of these found huge success and critical acclaim, they have also played a large part in shaping what would become the survival horror genre. Here are a few possible titles to choose from:
Sweet Home, Parasite Eve, Gorky 17, Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, Laplace no Ma, Koudelka, Tecmo's Deception, the MegaTen franchise, Pathologic
November, 2020: Attack of the Clones!

Put another way, games in this category copy another more influential or popular game. Why play The Legend of Zelda when you can play Golden Axe Warrior? Who needs Castlevania when you have Master of Darkness? Sonic the Hedgehog’s pretty fast, but have you played Bubsy? The mechanics in Fighter’s History are actually really solid...

Voting ends on Friday, November 27. You can vote twice, but no changing your votes this time!
