How many of you are actually still using CRT TVs?

by RyaNtheSlayA Sun Feb 28, 2016 7:26 pm

I was thinking about this as I was perusing NeoGaf (I know). They have a gigantic CRT thread and it got me thinking about those giant monstrosities.

I know a lot of members here have liquidated their collection of games by a significant amount but I never see any mention if ya'll got rid of your CRT sets.

I wonder how are those Sony power supplies holding up going on 15 or so years now?
I'm still not sure whether I'm a kid or a squid now.

No way will I get rid of my Sony WEGA HD CRT, its one of the best TVs for SD and HD as well. The power detection chips have a history of failures, I replaced mine a few years back to a newer revision, still working just fine. Look in the Guides Section for the Twenty Dollar Repair.

Can you post a link to the NeoGaf CRT Thread?

I'm still rocking my $15 Sony HD Wega 32" for all things N64 and earlier. Love it. Got it at Good Will with a 50% off coupon four years ago.

It really is the best way to play true retro games.

I bought my first LCD last may. I am still rocking 4 crts in the house with a couple of back ups and some broken ones in storage, lol. The Only reason I did not go with a CRT in the bedroom this time is a space issue as it is nice to wall mount the LCDs. Any time I seen CRTs for sale I want to buy them. The Panasonic I use now is a 27'' and has great component video and cost me only $2.

I still have three of them. I have a 28inch Magnavox flat tube in my bedroom, my main Sony WEGA Trinitron for my oXBOX (component), PS2/1 (component), Wii/Gamecube (component), Sega Genesis/CD (s-vid modded), Saturn, SNES, NES, N64 and Dreamcast (all these are composite). The other is some off-brand curved tube TVs I use for lightgun games since my others won't play them.
I only have one HDTV a 50 inch 720 plasma. I love my CRTs.

I have a flat screen 4:3 CRT in my dork cave, that I use solely for PS2, OG Xbox, and GameCube gaming. So it is used only for sixth gen gaming. If it dies before I finish all my 6th gen games, I will just get a Framemeister. I do wish I'd bought a WEGA back when they were new, but I had no idea back then, that modern fixed resolution HDTVs would have these issues with upscaling.

I still have my CRTs. 3 of em to be exact. A 22' Memorex, 22' Emerson and a 36' Sanyo. All Flat CRTs.
Trying to get a small one. Around 15' or so.
Still use em for light gun games and old school gaming in general.

When shopping for DVDs I still seek out Full Screen versions. :D
