Extra Visual Snazz - Smoother fade effects, some color animation, and other little details to push the hardware just a bit more.

Slowdown Eliminated - The GBC’s double speed mode is enabled to diminish virtually any lag present in the original game.

All-new Settings Menu - Change the Status Bar Color, toggle color animation in the Status Bar, or toggle the Animal Friends’ BGMs interrupting the level music.

Not a romhack, but a full engine recreation.

Awesome, thanks for posting this. Looks like they are planning on doing 5 and 6 as well, and then all 6 of the NES games will be available on the Genesis!

Speaking of this... Did anyone see the Mega Man 2 SNES port?

I saw! so impressive the decompilation and recompilation. I also tried out the earlierMega Man 4 port. I was hoping someone would upgrade Mega Man's sprite, but it's increasingly looking like I will need to do it myself.
Infidelity gave full instruction on how to do it, but I'm not smart, so it will be a struggle. I still want it to be done enough that soon-ish I will have to learn a new skill.

Edit: This SMB1 romhack is really impressive:
Celeste Mario’s Zap & Dash is a total conversion that reskins and overhauls the physics to that of the game Celeste.

Edit2: Doom 32x Resurrection 3.0 was just released:

Edit 3:
The Legend of Super Mario
TLOZ completely remade to be Super Mario Bros. themed - I love the music!

I'm sure a lot of you already heard, but just in case any one missed this news...

ROMhacking.net is closing it's doors to new submissions. The news and forums sections of the site will remain open, but the rest of the site we be turned into read-only. The owner of the site has already uploaded the entire database to archive.org. So perhaps a successor will pop up.

Yeah, that was pretty big news for me. I'm glad it didn't just go dark and that it's all backed up.
However, there is now a great void for any future works to submit; I agree that something needs to carry on the torch and tradition, preferably also indexing everything up until now.
Otherwise, new fan hacks are going to be scattered across the internet with no good way to keep track of them.

I really took the romhacking site for granted.
...just another lost soul...

Yeah, same here, I really took RHDN for granted.

99% of the time it was my one stop shop for everything ROM hacking. If I was curious if a translation or hack existed for a particular game, I would simply check RHDN. And it also had a great collection of tools for hacking and patching. Rarely did I have to look elsewhere for something. And that's what I'll miss most about it, how it was a centralized place for everything.

It's really cool though that the site will remain up as read-only. So it can still be useful to find things, assuming the search function remains intact. At least, until a successor pops up (which hopefully one will). And the news section will still remain up, so it might still work to become aware of new hacks, even if RHDN no longer hosts them.

But it's definitely the end of an era. :(

Sad news indeed. I liked scrolling through the new stuff every now and then. I need to go through and back-up some of my favorite hacks.

Does the online patcher still work?
