PSN and WiiWare recommendations

Post by baschlives »

I have been using these services more lately and I find some of the cheaper downloadable games to be quite fun.

I am looking for recommendations of the best and most fun games for the PSN and WiiWare services respectively.

Can anyone vouch for DeathSpank I have read mixed reviews.

Mega Man 9 and 10 on WiiWare should go without saying... but I'm still saying them.

For PSN I have and would recommend:

Super Stardust HD
Wipeout HD
Astro Tripper
Lumines Supernova
Everyday Shooter
Soldner X
Soldner X-2
Joe Danger
Pixel Junk Monsters/Encore
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Super Street Fighter 2 HD
Gunstar Heroes
Tank Battles
Shatter
Critter Crunch
Zen Pinball
Namco Museum Essentials (with an exclusive new Xevious game!)
Crash Commando
The Last Guy
3 on 3 NHL Arcade
Noby Noby Boy (not really a game as much as a toy)
Flower
Rag Doll Kung Fu (got this for free, wouldn't pay much for it)

For WiiWare I have:
Dr. Mario
Alien Crush Returns
Toki Tori
and...that's it!

Not much on WiiWare appeals to me...plus I don't like the idea that they don't transfer to another Wii if I buy one or if mine breaks. Once I found that out, I stopped buying WiiWare or VC games so I've skipped MM 9 and 10, the Rebirth games, etc. Hopefully they see a disc version at some point...

Mega Man can be bought on any of the three platforms (and Wii is the only one without achievements or trophies of some sort), for the reference.

Without a doubt, my highest recommendations for WiiWare would go to the Bit.Trip series. Every single game in the series. The latest is the greatest, but they're all brilliant. The other two obvious recommendations are World of Goo (brilliant) and LostWinds.

I can't recommend any PSN titles as much as I would the Bit.Trip games, but PSN has a number of strong titles as well. PSN has Braid, if you don't have it for Xbox 360. Fat Princess is a unique and popular choice. Flower is very unique and beautiful in concept and in play. The PixelJunk series is high quality, though the only game I've gotten much play out of is PixelJunk Monsters.

I think if your wii breaks, if you send it off to nintendo, they can transfer your wii games to your repaired/or refurbished wii. I always thought this was the case anyways.

I'm somewhat surprised to see Echochrome lacking from that list Ds. I would have thought you'd be very interested in it.

I have to agree with Crux with the bit.trip series on the wiiware ;) I'd also recommend the rebirth series, arkanoid plus, and water warfare. I know a lot of people don't like it but I personally enjoyed it myself.

I played through a good chunk of it on the PSP. Feels much more like a good handheld game to me :D

Wiiware:
Bit Trip Series, start with Bit Trip Beat
Lost Winds 1 and 2, my favorites
Nyx Quest
Konami Rebirsts: Contra, Gradius, and Castelvania
World of Goo
Cave Story
Final Fantasy: My Life as DarkLord
Lit

Those are the best games I have come across on Wiiware.
