Sony PlayStation model no. SCPH-1001 manu. 1997 - Worth?

Post by Devezu »

Not really looking to sell it, but I was reading online about its supposed audiophile capabilities. I have dismantled it, but only to clean and re-lubricate the plastic gears. My question is - is it worth much?

I got £11 for mine, it's a bit of a common misconception about it's audio output, it's not really that good, yes back then it was a highend CD player for a lot less money in the way a PS3 is a Bluray player now. But nowadays you can get something comparable in a supermarket, alot of the budget standalone DVD players surpass it for performance with the added ability of playing DVDA.

I am a pizza delievery man. I traded my shift pizza (free to me) for one with 4 controllers and a multi tap. There really isn't that much of a demand for them. You might get an extra $5 or $10 buck over another ps1. So still like $35 shipped on ebay. It is not like it is one of the debug units.

That audiophile nonsense is, well, nonsense. Using a playstation as a CD player will do about as much for you as using a $500 ethernet cable. And these are the units with the plastic trays, which will inevitably fail and require you to turn your PSX upsidedown in order to run. They tend to stutter during FMV sequences too. So, it's not the best model of PSX.

Well, like I've said, I did open it up and re-lubricated EVERYTHING and it does not stutter on FMVs at all. I know - I've tried.
