They did, but like Twilight Princess some people consider the last gen version to be the original and the current (at release time) version to be the port.

Yeah, I’m part of that group with TP: the GC release is the original to me, and the Wii version was the port.

Kinda funny that Nintendo did that twice with Zelda.

Simultaneous development is not a port. Just like when a game releases on both Xbox and Playstation at the same time one isn't a port of the other.

A case can be made that if the development of one long preceded the other, the former is the original and the latter used ported code, even if they were released at the same time.

It can, but it really depends on when fundamental design decisions get locked in, as that's when the limitations of the weaker hardware would assert themselves. So without a deeper look into the development timeline it's hard to say on an individual basis.

The only assumption I can make was that BotW was originally a Wii U game, with much more use out of the game pad. I don’t remember the details but Nintendo had a slew of features specific to the game pad. When they realized that the console was struggling big time, they removed lots of those game pad specific features and made it a Switch launch title.

Again, only assuming because of the removal of those game pad specific features.

And that’s four “game pads” in one post. Now five “game pads.” Now six “game pa**ENOUGH**

As for Twilight: I can I only guess that Nintendo wanted a Zelda launch title so they did that mirror flip thing, slapped wii specific controls on it, and got it out the door.

ALERT! ALERT!

A port of Gleylancer launches on the Switch tomorrow:

Apparently, it’s a really great port:

I’ll be paying full price to encourage more releases like this.

I can appreciate them not fixing the bad English in the title. Looks like Zero Wing with better backgrounds.

Zombie Nation just got a re-release for the Switch:

The price is a bit high for two NES ROMs, but I’ll probably pick it up because I’m a sucker for these sorts of things. (I’ll do the same with Cotton 100% and Panorama Cotton tomorrow.)
