The Awesome Deals in the Nintendo eShop Thread!

Post by prfsnl_gmr »

I was playing the amazingly fun and amazingly inexpensive Alien on the Run this morning, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to fun, inexpensive games in the Nintendo eShop. Games there are always going on sale, and the Nintendo eShop is full of games that aren't available on any other platform. Moreover, it is the home to many ports of iOS and Android games that play infinitely better with tactile controls.

Accordingly, if you see any deals in the Nintendo eShop you think we should know about - or if you discover a really good inexpensive game - be sure to post it here!

I will get us started!

I am currently playing Alien on the Run, a 3DS exclusive, that I purchased for $1.99 (marked down from its regular price of $3.99). It's incredibly funny and original, and it reminds me of some of the odd, but really fun, Japanese games released during the PS1 era. I haven't finished it up yet, but it is so much fun that I already have no problem recommending it.

GetClose: A Game for Rivals (Wii U) is currently on sale for $0.99.

The concept is simple: each player is a quick-moving dot that can navigate the single-screen level, fire at opponents, or pick up and run with the crown. There are two modes, asking you to either return the crown to your home base for a point or to just grab it and avoid opponents who want to blow you up and grab the crown for themselves. So simple, but still a lot of fun.

The catch? You share the GamePad (and/or Pro Controller) with one person using the strick/trigger on each side. Hence the "get close" name.

This game isn't going to blow you away, and requires that you have multiple people ready and wiling to play locally. But it has that Bomberman charm - fast multiplayer rounds filled with mayhem, and bragging rights when you make a last second kill (or escape) to shift the balance of that round.

While the asking price is under a dollar it's not a bad pick up at all.

They are! Of those, I have:

Abyss
Alien on the Run
Blocky Bot
GetClose (Thanks for the heads up, ejgamer!)
Hazumi
Paper Monsters Recut
Stealth, Inc. 2 A Game of Clones

As mentioned above, I highly recommend Alien on the Run, and Hazumi is a fun, full-featured, Breakout-inspired puzzle game. (I am only about half-way through Hazumi...It can be really, really hard.) I have not played the others, but they are all well-reviewed.

Also - and unlike PSN and XBLA - game sales in the eShop do not appear to be on any pre-set schedule. Accordingly, it is worth checking in every so often to see if anythign new has gone on sale.

Finally - and unlike PSN and XBLA - the eShop offers a tremendous number of games whose regular price is under $5 (i.e., Cubit, Fairune, Zombie Incident, etc.). I am really, really interested in reading about these games and determining which ones are worth picking up.

There is a Capcom sale in the eShop this week:

Games are discounted pretty steeply. (Sadly, I already own most of these.)
