Total number of SNES games released in the United States.

Post by Ack »

Ok, so having looked around, is it true that 722 games were released for the Super Nintendo in America? Wikipedia claims there are 785 games in all, but by removing everything that never saw releases in the US, I came up with 722.

I would suspect that the list of Japanese only releases is incomplete. Think of all the RPGs, SRPGs, and anime games that never made it over here.

Actually, when it comes to things like that, there's a list of all Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games by genre that I like to use.

The problem with using their website is that they don't have any way to search for just Super Nintendo games. While they are in their database, the options for searching for specific consoles only goes back to the Nintendo 64, though handhelds go back to the original Game Boy. I'm actually feeling somewhat let down by this, as it really wouldn't have been that difficult to add.

Thanks very much for that.

Interesting too, I counted 715 games on that list, not 722. I wonder if I miscounted, or if there are 7 unofficial games for the SNES, or if some were just improperly labeled.

I remember asking this same question before, and I find it rather frustrating that there isn't a clear answer.

Incidentally, what are those 7 extra games? I know, for instance, that Chavez Boxing, FIFA 97 and FIFA 98 are not on the list; I'm not sure if it's because they were never officially released in the USA or if Nintendo just left them off the list.

I looked up some information at

http://www.digitpress.com/

but no one seems to have the whole story.
