Gamecube latch problem

Post by bryan_65 »

Well the problem is that my Gamecube's lid wont stay shut is there a way to fix the latch or would it be easier to find a different Gamecube. It feels like the button is kinda worn. Would some electronic cleaner with lubricate work? I can post some pics if I need to try and show the problem.

Does the button come up with a black latch inside protruding?
If button is stuck down a slight amount of WD40 might free it.

Is the button itself stuck down? If it's up but it won't stay shut then something must be broke internally. Mine gets stuck down almost every time I use it, I've found that gently wiggling it back and forth will slowly get it to come back up.

The button gets stuck down and does not want to come up. The black latch inside works fine if the button would come up like it should. I think I am going to try the WD40 on the button. I guess this was more of a button problem than a latch problem.

I will let you know if this works good.

That sounds like it's worth a shot. I imagine in time my cube will be in the same situation as yours. It's probably worth checking if there's lube especially for plastics, I doubt wd-40 would damage the plastic though.

If you have gamebits to open the system, do that, pop the button and take the lever stuff free. Clean it and put a little lube on the pivot points lighty before putting it back together. You don't want to be spraying stuff down the sides of the button with everything still assembled as it will make a mess inside and you'll get it everywhere and then you'll be getting it all over your fingers too when ejecting.
