This video:
I'm glad to see that there's finally a fix for one of the two common disc drive problems present in most Model 1 Sega CD units. Hopefully with either glue or tiny zipties we can get some more working Model 1 systems back into circulation.

That's funny, I used this exact video to help me fix my model 1.

I'll probably be ordering a Model 1 with a few drive issues soon, so I was busy looking for fixes when I came across it last night.

Re: How to fix the Disc Drive on a Model 1 Sega CD
don't get your hopes up too fast.
i have 3 broken model ones sitting on my desk, and none of them have that issue.
you want to make sure the laser works, and so does the drive motor.
the drive motor is actually still available for about $2.50.
the 3 I have all have a blown out plastic spindle. One is missing a gear tooth, and the others have chunks taken out of the spiral to raise and lower the cd driver.
all that being said, I also used this video to figure out how some parts went back together. I have a lot of projects, so i can sometimes forget how to reassemble.

Is it possible to find or make replacements?sneth wrote:the 3 I have all have a blown out plastic spindle. One is missing a gear tooth, and the others have chunks taken out of the spiral to raise and lower the cd driver.
Yeah it's definitely helpful, If I ever open up my Model 1 I might have wrecked a few parts accidentally (like those little plastic clips) if I hadn't seen it.sneth wrote:all that being said, I also used this video to figure out how some parts went back together. Combine them, paint the finished product with a textured green, put bolts in it at random and VIOLA FrankengaCDsneth wrote:don't get your hopes up too fast.

Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?
Re: How to fix the Disc Drive on a Model 1 Sega CD
the plastic components are not replaceable. I have rebuilt most of them with a dense epoxy and sanded them back in place. It's a pain in the ass to put the cd tray back together so i have yet to finish.
My plan was to make a franken CD and toss the remaining parts. I never believed this plastic spindle to be such an issue as I have never heard of other people with this problem.
The good thing is all their motor's and lasers work. I can manually set the cd tray switch and get them all to play.
