Hello!
I have a PS2 slim (SCPH-75000FF) and about 90% of my games boot up at regular speeds, but some games boot REALLY slowly or not at all. The slow-booting games are scratch-free and they work fine on my older "phat" system. Sometimes it'll try to read the disc, then go back to the 'browser'. Other times I'll get to the title screen, then the system will freeze. I'll throw in a game that I know works fine, and no problems. WTF?!
Any ideas what could be wrong?

The problem discs are clean? Are they Blue CDs or DVD games? Maybe laser is dusty, scratched or starting to go?

That's what I would think...but the strange thing is it only behaves this way with certain games. Homura, Psyvariar, and Simple 2000 Series games boot really slowly or sometimes not at all. Everything else is fine. It just seems that a malfunctioning laser would take a crap on any game, and not be prejudice!

Not sure if those games are blue CDs. Could also be that the dificult game discs cause the laser to jump all over the tracks depending where data/music/video is. A chore on a dirty or worn laser. The slim laser is more easily damaged because of exposure when door is open.

They are blue. What you say makes sense. Thanks for your input. I guess I have to figure out a way to fix it and use the fat PS2 for now.

Yeah, I've noticed that blue CDs and PS2s don't seem to get along very well.

Have you tried cleaning both lenses? There have been a few posts linking to a video of cleaning the second lens under the focusing one. That involves a lot of disassembly though.

Thanks guys. I cleaned the laser with contact cleaner and it worked!
