Personal GoTY?

Post by nickfil »

Thing about games is that they pile up. Gamers get thrifty and only buy stuff when it comes down in price well after release date. I'm still diving into ps1 games that i missed out on. I've never played everything i wanted to play for the year in the year it came out. SO...

All these lists are coming out for game of the year 09, but knowing a couple of you on the board... I'm curious what your personal game is. Doesn't have to be an 09 game, just a game you've never played before that you fired up for the first time (perhaps even embarrassingly) in 09.

Also- biggest disappointment from gaming in 09?

my favorite games of the year that were (embarrassingly) new to me:

1. Galaga
2. Super Puzzle Fighter II
3. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

these are three games that I just completely love now, and revisited over and over and over again in 2009. They're sort of like comfort games to me now. Galaga especially is one of the greatest games ever. Ever.

Since I just recently started buying xbla games my mind is kinda stuck on them. So I'd say PacMan CE is my goty, and Shadow Complex is my biggest disappointment. If I had started playing Torchlight while it was still 09 that'd probably be my goty though, it's a brilliant game.

I would say Trials HD. Not a fan of the color pallet, but the game was just fine for to overlook the graphics.

And I thought I knew you!

I loved Mega Man 9 and the Rebirth Series. I'm about to download Bionic Commando Rearmed.

Under the 'new to me in 2009' category I would have to say Chibi Robo on the Gamecube. Although a bit repetitive it's quirky and down right weird characters and story are strangely compelling.

ha. I think my only embarrassing 09 game that is fantastic that i probably should've played well before 09 is missile command. Fantastic game, but not my goty.

puzzle fighter never made sense to me. It is like poyo pop but not i guess? I could never really figure it out and i would just get crushed.

FFTA is great, but the original on the ps1 is king imho. I stopped playing near the end of the game because the judges kind of ruined it for me. A couple rules is one thing, but when they start throwing out penalties for 4 or 5 different types of commands I start to lose interest.

I haven't played shadow complex yet, but i was really looking forward to it. Why didn't you like it?

I just picked that up, but i haven't started yet. I hear you need more than one player to really enjoy it. Any truth to it, or can you one man army it and still have a good time?
