Which was the game you wanted to like the most but didn't?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Which was the game you wanted to like the most but didn't?

Post by wakeup »

You must have at least seen a gameplay screenshot and a general concept of what to expect for the game. (Eg. seeing Sonic in 3d then play Sonic Adventure and disappointed)

For me, it's Myst. I wanted to like that game so badly because it looked so good back in the days and I've been meaning to play it ever since. Finally played it last year and while the concept is not bad, I just didn't feel I could honestly finish the game. I just don't have the patience anymore to solve puzzles after puzzles in a deserted island. I think I expected to not like the game too but I still wanted to like it. Maybe I just associate the game and people who likes it as "higher level" because of its clean and zen-like image that I see in the game. Marketing-related? Maybe...

King of Fighters anything. I want to like the series so bad, but always end up disappointed.

I'll be grabbing KOF XII soon in the hope the tradition changes. But deep down I'm pretty sure it won't.

Sid Meier's Railroads. It's the only bad game I have in my hands.

I've always wanted to like 2D Mario games, but always get incredibly bored after just a minute or two. If I play more than that I get so bored that my head starts aching and I feel overcome with the desire to punch a hole through the television screen for no good reason. I really envy other people when I hear them talking about how much fun they were and how much they enjoyed them. I WANT A PIECE OF THAT HAPPY PIE!!!

I've at least tried to play every game in the series a dozen times, but can rarely get past the third stage or so before moving on to something else. The single exception to this is Super Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy. I absolutely loved that game. I'll never understand why it gets so little attention.

Rampage on NES.

I loved the arcade game, and was thrilled when I heard it was coming to a console. Didn't turn out that awesome.

I hope you're able to get into it someday. To me it totally had a "**** traditional game design" approach that I completely fell in love with. I got really absorbed in it. After I beat it I don't think I played another game for at least a month. It's one of my favorite games, actually.

A lot, maybe most...

but a recent one is half-life 2, everyone knows how big this game is but I found it to be boring. Its not bad, but other options are available . It really starts slow and gets better as it ends, the gravity gun is fun, the idea of being a rebel is great but I don't know something is not right.

For me, the story I am engaged in is very important and keeps me going. I don't like racers for example, but when I turned on NFS: Most Wanted I couldn't stop. The challenge to make my way up, challenging tough racers, beating milestones, the FMV characters was all interesting that kept me going on. ActRaiser was another example, how you fight for the people and help them build their cities and fight the bad monsters kept me going on. In Half-life 90% of the game you are just running away.

I agree with you on Killer 7. I tried to get into it because of all the good reviews but couldn't. The PS2 controller didn't help any either.

Panzer Dragoon series.

I've played the first Panzer Dragoon on the Sega Saturn as well as Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox, and no matter how hard I tried to get into the games and enjoy them... I just couldn't.

Maybe on-rails shooters just aren't my thing?
