RacketBoy CHARITY AUCTION 2022 Donations and Poll

Post by Anapan »

Hey all, I'm asking for item donations for this year's charity auction. This thread will also serve as the poll to determine which charity we will be supporting this year.

The RacketBoy Charity Auction has been a tradition since I started participating on the forum around 2009. It has been a place to donate our duplicate or unloved gaming/electronic wares to try to raise funds to benefit an elected charity. I am keeping the tradition alive again because it has consistently been successful in supporting a worthwhile cause.

Please PM me descriptions and pictures of things you wish to donate. Items will be listed with a starting bid of $1 USD unless a different starting bid is requested.

Consider donating small and light items (carts and discs, books and crafts, controllers and handhelds) rather than larger ones as everyone donating is responsible for shipping their donation to the auction winner. This auction is open to any forum member and may involve shipping outside your country. We can help with excessive shipping costs if your item is unexpectedly outside your country if necessary.

Here's a rundown of the charities we are considering his year; I polled 6 charity rating websites and posted any results. I can mirror guidestar reviews if you cannot create a login to view more than one rating. I've allowed re-voting and would accept members talking openly about any of these charities:
I'll accept the vote results as final at the exact time I post my official 2022 RacketBoy charity auction post and bids are accepted. I'll announce the winner as a post here for confirmation.

I feel like The Video Game History Foundation is our best choice, and here's why:

It's not that ASPCA, DanceSafe and Prevent Cancer aren't all important. But the fact of the matter is that those three are well known and already well funded. The Video Game History Foundation is not well known, and not well funded, they need our money more. If we were to make a list of things that need to be done in the world, in order of importance, would preserving video games be above preventing cancer? No, it wouldn't. But let's be honest, what we raise here is going to be a relatively small donation to any of those three big organizations (probably not even a blip on their radar). Our money raised will make a BIGGER IMPACT for the Video Game History Foundation then it would for any of the other charities listed here.

It's easy to feel like there's an obvious answer to the question, "Should I give my money to video game history or cancer prevention?" But I don't think that answer is obvious at all. Video games help so many people in so many ways. Obviously for everyone here, video games have been a big part of your life. There's no knowing how many lives were saved or improved because of video games. So I don't think it should be automatically discounted when stacked up against "things that really matter." Video games matter.

Stack Up would be a runner up vote for me. To be honest, I haven't heard of them until just now, but I like the idea of what they do. Still, they seem to be well funded compared to The Video Game History Foundation.

I fully agree with ziggy587, but it's SO HARD to not post sad cat pictures. I have so many sad cat pictures I want to post.
Choking back tears as I commit to donating this pillow cover.
You will also receive a pillow to cry into.

I will accept donations up to 48 hours before the end time of the auction. I don't think an end time has been mentioned yet, or even which time zone we will be using for cutoff. I think two weeks is a good runtime, and I'll probably run it as it was run before. I don't remember the time zone we were using, but anyone planning to participate can suggest another setup that can work for us all.

OK, cool. I have something on order that has an estimated delivery of November 7th. Hopefully it will be liked!

In previous years, we have done a rolling finish. If bids were still coming in, then the end time was extended.

I do need that picture - I added rolling end feature.

Video Game History Foundation is the official charity this year.
