I KNOW we have a Last Movie You Watched thread, but I don't really contribute much there. (Other than when my boys evildeadmanwalking or killerjuan77 talk horror shop.) So DSH's thread inspired me to start this one for the month to keep track of the horror I'm watching. I think you all know I'm a big genre fan, so I figured this could be fun to keep a log and get all yall's feedback on the films or maybe get some of you to watch, or steer clear of some of my picks.

Last night:



Scream 4

Now honestly, Wes Craven is probably my favorite director. Which is hilarious in a way. I don't actually even think he's a "good" director, but I feel like his films are these funny little mainstream moments-in-time. If that makes any sense?

The first Scream is genuinely one of my favorite slashers -- a big deal, as the slasher is my favorite genre, and I've quite literally seen around 200 of them. Scream 4 is without a doubt the best in the series since the first. So far, it's my vote for favorite movie of 2011. Oh and fun note, our very own nintendork666 was an extra in Scream 4. Seriously.

This is the 2nd time I saw it. First was in the theaters. I still loved it the 2nd time around. It's a great fuck-you to the recent remake trend.

Hallween II (2009)

Now this was interesting. Also the 2nd time viewing. The first was in the theaters. And I fucking hated it. The R-rated cut shown theatrically was apparently horribly butchered. Seeing the unrated director's cut is like seeing a totally different movie. The R-rated cut excluded so much important exposition, it's unreal. You guys NEED to see the unrated one even if you hated the R-rated one. Trust me on this. I would have given it a 2/5 originally, but now I sort of thought it was great.

Good to know you liked Scream 4, I saw it on the movies and I loved it, I'll try to watch Halloween 2 though, I liked Rob Zombie's Halloween (YOU GUYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT? ) so I guess I have to see it.

It's really good though and it's also incredibly grim. Definetely worth watching if you can handle it. Also, Otis is fucked up.

The Serpent And The Rainbow



I loved it, creepy and beautifully shot, the worst part is that it's more or less true. Wes Craven adapted this perfectly.

The Legend Of Hell House



I re-watched it since I read the book a few days ago, I still love it, it's incredibly well made and even with the fact that it's much more tame than the book (If the film was as graphic as the book it would have been a hard-R or an NC-17) it's still terrifying. Roddy McDowall also gives the best performance of his career here.

no reason to be defensive about RZ's Halloween. The original Halloween is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I loved RZ's first one. I didn't take it as a remake so much as a prequel. I thought it was brilliant. I liked it more than Devil's Rejects actually.

Serpent & The Rainbow is brilliant. Great take on the book. That movie scared the shit out of me when I was little haha.

I know I didn't have to be defensive, but most people hate it and they also hate the fact that it's nothing like the original (Even though that's a good thing), although as you said it's more of a prequel, hell, here in Mexico it's called Halloween: El Origen (The Origin) and to be fair it makes much more sense than the original in terms of Michael's "motives". In the original he just went nuts, in here you have the bullies, his mom's BF and his promiscuous sister causing his insanity. It haves much more development than Halloween.

As for The Serpent & The Rainbow I still found it creepy and I did some research and it happens to be more or less true, now that's terrifying.

Yeah Serpent And The Rainbow is based on a book kept in non-fiction. The zombies of course are not Night Of The Living Dead zombies, but "real" zombies -- brainwashed and "dead" as far as the doctors could perceive. Truly horrifying story.

And now:



Hosel II

As much as I'd consider the first movie to be a better movie -- it's certainly scarier -- I love the 2nd and watch it way more. I've seen the first 3 times. I've lost count on the 2nd. I think of them kind of like Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2. The first is all action, and it's far more exciting. But the 2nd is the story -- the real meat of the film. I love it.

house of 1000 corpses>devils rejects. it felt like natural born killers to me for some reason. didn't feel like a "horror" movie to me. more or less just some fucked up people on the run. last good horror movie i've seen was high tension.

I definitely agree that House of 1000 is waay better. But I like Devils Rejects. Totally different films though. Devils is more of a 70's exploitation killspree flick. It's like he took the idea of the same family, but made two completely different sub-genres of films out of their story.

Last horror movie I saw was The Troll Hunter, and it was awesome. Although I would only consider it borderline horror. More like a fantasy film with a touch of horror.
