I'd watch Kingsglaive first. The game just outright skips a ton of exposition. If it didn't happen from Noctis' perspective, the game glosses over it. So watching Kingsglaive first will help in that regard because Noctis is barely in it.

Kingsglaive is pretty much the opening cutscene for FFXV.

So I have almost done all of the Carnival stuff, what a boring piece of DLC. I honestly would have preferred more of the same post game dungeons.

yup played the tutoria and then decided to watch Kingsglave instead. Funnily enough playing just the tutorial before watching the movie might be the best way to experience it (since I at least had a feeling of how their powers work, and if you guys say this is almost like an opening cut-scene then it must not go very deep into the game.

Other major quesiton for tomorrow when I actually start the game: Japanese or English dub? FF13 had some decent performances, but some were just cringeworthy (I'm looking at you Hope, Vanille)

So, when are the Chapter 13 changes supposed to drop? I've got a copy I'm thinking of spinning up if I get sick of trying to unlock Quiet's last mission in MGSV. :?

The game will be fully patched and complete by 2027.

I'm not fully joking, are any of you guys going to care in another year about this? I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon. They have to add cutscenes to Chapter 13 and things like that. It's hilarious.

I just say play it. A few patches isn't going to fix the problems anyways...

Yeah I say just play it the story is going to be a train wreck for quite a while. Just blast through it then use the oddball time travel system at save points to play the open world segments and don't worry about the story. Really the best thing about this game are the side activities and missions if they had just focused on that and released expansions or sequels to finish up the game's story line a few years down the road it would have been much better. As it stands I don't think there is a way to fix the game without basically a total rewrite and doubling if not tripling it's length. There is no way SE is going to do that given the ridiculous sum they have undoubtedly blow already in making the game.

If anything expect the changes to be along the lines of the inserted cut scene near the beginning that is basically ripped directly from Kingsglaive yet has no audio or real reference to explain wth is exactly happening. If anything I thought that forced cut scene made the game worse.

Fragems is spot on.

The issues can't be ignored and when you get to Chapter 13 Sarge, which flips the gameplay itself upside down turning it into a stealth mission and quite possibly the longest chapter in the game, you'll be seriously begging and wishing you were playing The Phantom Pain right then and there instead. :P

Hey, I should be prepared, with all the stealthing I've been doing. ;)

Oh boy, though, 12GB worth of patches! I think I'll probably need to bring my PS4 to work to download. Oof. The first-world travails of only having 4G internet access at home...

I actually suspect I'll like the game just fine. I mean, I was a weirdo that liked Final Fantasy XIII, and enjoyed it more than XII, which gets all sorts of love. I've got a little rep around this parts for finding positive points in a lot of games that people think suck (I like Fester's Quest!), so... well, we'll just see. I bet it's not as bad as the opening to Infinite Undiscovery, which opens with a horrible stealth sequence and a horrible escape sequence and a horrible escort sequence. Baaaarf. The rest of the game after that is gold, though!

I think in retrospect I like XIII more than XV. I did a LOT more post game stuff in XIII and even though the plot and verbiage made no sense, the ending was a lot better. And regardless of it becoming a trilogy, the first game feels entirely complete and conclusive. Can't say that about XV and I had to force myself to try and keep playing post game... but gave up since it just made me hate it more.

Guess I'll be curious to see what you think sometime then. haha
