If you get the date/time set screen, press the right direction until you have highlighted the bottom-right symbol then press A.
In the main system menu, select the icon that looks like a box with up-down arrow inside.
Next screen, choose bottom-right option.
In the next menu, select the item in the center (it’s the 2nd option)
Pick English (is not kanji) then select Exit.

You saw this was already answered, right? And that this is a 12-year necropost?

Hello, can somebody help me solve this problem with my Saturn?

Recently i got one for 60$ but the seller told me that it reads cd only as audio, original disc's, so i tried to boot a cd, it reads the TOC just fine, then the security, again just fine, but after the sega logo it gives me a black screen, the laser is healthy and i tried to adjust the pots with no luck, i saw someone say that it might be the motor that it spins the cd and it doesn't get proper voltage but idk if that is the case.
Thanks in advance! :D

If you adjusted the pots, that's what broke it. Unless you hook up an oscilloscope to the right points on the laser assembly. and *really* know what you doing, you can only make the laser not read, no matter what you read online.
I read those same things.
I needed to buy a new laser assembly and that was over 15 years ago.
You will not be able to find a new laser assembly ( well, not a "new" one).
Sorry to hear you broke it.
Install one of the ODE's and you're set.

Phew... i hope it was something wrong with the motherboard or something, but yeah i will change the cd drive, i don't plan on replacing it since it is a waste of time, when Fenrir's come in stock i will buy one as soon as possible. The thing is that it is my first having a Saturn and i wanted to try the games to see how they looked, i have a Demo cd, i will probably gonna sell it. Thanks for responding! 8)

Glad you're okay with the likely prognosis. The laser assembly is the first to go on this console, and had likely failed before you received it. Still a good price, and the rest of the hardware will likely outlast you. Just keep the 2032 battery fresh or leave it out.
