Fan Remakes/Tributes/Covers of Gaming Soundtracks
I'm never quite sure if there's a more succinct or accurate term to describe these (I've heard 'arrangements' get used too), but lately I've been really into listening to covers of 8 or 16-bit soundtracks using real instruments. Discovering covers that are actually well produced is really difficult,...

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
It's also a nice touch that Mickey and Donald each have an exclusive level in solo mode, and I believe I read there's another exclusive level in co-op mode. I wasn't aware of that – that's a neat inclusion to add to the replayability. I had hoped to play a few more than I did, but I didn't really h...

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
I started the game off with two misinterpretations that painted my expectations: first, rather than getting that the world map was a level select... I knew straight away where you were going with this. I first played QuackShot last summer and I did the exact same thing I had two false starts attemp...

Re: March 2021 Together Retro: Let's Vote!
Great choices/themes! For the ruler one, would games like Civilization count, or are you looking for a well defined protagonist? While I'd say that certainly fits the letter of the rules rather than the spirit, I'd say go for it anyway X3 I was wondering the same thing as it would also qualify games...

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
I’m really finding it tough to get into the Master System version of Castle of Illusion. I can’t exactly put my finger on why, but I can only attribute it to playing Land first. It just doesn’t feel as well polished or designed. Land may also have benefitted creatively from being its own original ga...

The final level shows some obvious Castlevania influences. So much so that my muscle memory must have kicked in and I kept trying to butt-bump the candles on the background to get powerups

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
Just completed Land of Illusion on Master System. I opted to skip over the 8-bit version of Castle for now as I have vague memories of playing Land a couple times at my cousins as a kid. As much as I’ve previously enjoyed playing Castle and World on Mega Drive, I’m gonna back up the consensus that 8...

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
Finished Quackshot on Mega Drive today. The plunger-launcher is a really cool mechanic. You eventually upgrade it to shoot at walls to make your own platforms to progress over obstacles and up walls, which feels ahead of its time for a game from 1991. I’m not a fan of it as a weapon. Except for boss...

Re: Together Retro February ‘21 - Mickey & Donald in 8- & 16
First time I’m taking part - might be the perfect time as I’ve got quite a few of these! Played through World of Illusion on my Mega Drive Mini about a year ago with a friend. The co-op aspects -though few- really helped the two-player experience. It was good fun but proved quite easy, we completed ...

Re: Games to play on winter vacation
I shoulda remembered Arkham Origins! I haven't actually played/owned it yet myself, but a few Christmases ago it was stupid cheap, brand new on Xbox 360 and I thought it'd be a good pre-Christmas game. But... I was put off by several reviews saying the game was very buggy and quite a few of those ha...
