Re: Oldest 'hidden gems' & 'best of' lists.

I think its valuable information for an article and not for a "heres what to play" list. Something like that needs context to be understood, and only someone who is looking for that context is going to enjoy it.

Re: Oldest 'hidden gems' & 'best of' lists.

The above mostly makes a lot of sense. Moving old 'hidden gems' which are now better known into Defining Games waters that term down I think. For me, defining games should be the stuff that sold well, that people and the media were discussing at the time. Some of those games probably aren't even ga...

Re: Oldest 'hidden gems' & 'best of' lists.

Another approach, which I feel like it more do-able in the short term, is to promote some games from "Gems" to "Defining" and then promote some of the best "Gems" Honorable Mentions to be more highly featured. I've VERY slowly been doing this and hope to continue -- es...

Re: Oldest 'hidden gems' & 'best of' lists.

Do you have any old lists? Let me do some digging and post what I find. I need to organize it in a coherent way. One thing I have been thinking about though, in regards to hidden gems, is there any real hidden gems left? All of the under-the-radar games that were talked about in the early to mid 00...

Oldest 'hidden gems' & 'best of' lists.

ok hear me out- I have a theory here. My theory is that the oldest 'hidden gem' lists and the oldest 'best of' lists haven't changed since they were made. The discourse has never been updated, just repeated. However, finding the old lists has been *tough.* You are able to beat the google algorithm b...

Re: How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?

Hey so- I also was in this camp of "there isn't anything on the dreamcast worth playing that hasn't been ported" for a long long time. Sold my dreamcast. Years went by. Then I started seeing translations pop up and some deep dreamcast cuts that I wanted play. Then the Atomiswave arcades go...

Re: Rendering Ranger: R2 (SNES) - Limited Run Games !

Are the original programmers seeing any of the money? Or just some random company that holds the rights 30 years later? If the latter, just pirate the game. I'm pretty confident that the original designers and programmers aren't going to see a dime of this. It has to be the company holding the ip. ...

Re: Rendering Ranger: R2 (SNES) - Limited Run Games !

But, when the only alternative is scouring eBay for an ancient, overpriced cartridge that may be in terrible shape or with text in a language I can't read, I'm overwhelmingly in favor of companies like Limited Run bringing out lovingly curated re-releases whenever and however they're able. Sure, an...
