Re: July Together Retro Poll
This is definitely an interesting theme. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit this round out. My free time has been steadily declining and shows no signs of improving for the foreseeable future. It means that I've had to take a hard look at how I spend the time that I get. It pains me ...

Re: Together Retro: Beat-'Em-Ups
Oof, this month hasn't been kind to me so far, free time-wise. That said, I managed to get a bit into Viewtiful Joe . As expected, I'm getting whomped pretty hard. I might have to swallow my pride and switch down the Kids difficulty. My main problem seems to be that I'm not as good as I used to be a...

Re: Together Retro: Beat-'Em-Ups
Anybody gonna play 3D (polygonal) beat 'em ups besides me? I was planning on tackling Viewtiful Joe for this month. (I think you and others were looking at it too.) However, this is more of a 2.5D game, so I doubt that's quite what you meant. I'm fully expecting to have my butt handed to me by this...

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
Well, I'm a little late to the part for my final post, but better late than never, I guess. I didn't quite finish Shining in the Darkness . Before the month ended, I completed the fourth trial and last night got about a third of the way through the 2nd floor of the labyrinth. I don't have a ton of e...

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
In the final Trials cave in Shining in the Darkness . Almost a comical difficulty spike at this point. Enemies are much harder now, and there's one-way doors and pitfalls galore! According the the internets I'm not even halfway through the game. Yikes! Yeah, due to time constraints, I’m probably no...

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
As promised, here's my map so far for the Cave of Strength in Shining in the Darkness. I'll likely get some more exploring going tomorrow!

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
So Shining in the Darkness is actually pretty good about how it handles pits. There's only one area where pits are used as a major obstacle. Otherwise it tends to be used as ways to access additional areas, or temporary barriers. You won't be running into "ha ha, now you have to redo everythin...

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
How far along are you? All my characters are around level 14, I did a lot of grinding on the respawning Kaiser Crab. I can now take him down with three physical attacks (one from each character) and the XP he's dishing out isn't cutting it anymore, so I'll move on. I think these respawing boss crea...

Re: Together Retro: First-Person Dungeon Crawlers
Put in a few more hours into Shining in the Darkness . I got my teammates leveled up somewhat and now I’m working through the first trial in the Cave of Strength. A few noteworthy things: ⋅ Once you get your companions, your encounter rate goes waaay up. This was probably the right decisio...

Re: Together Retro - June
Agreed on both counts. I’m sure TR will continue to have positive refinement, and it’s been a pretty good success so far. I (and I’m sure many others) have been enjoying the new format
