I'm still of the belief that Ultima 7 is the greatest RPG ever made. Although it is over 20 years old and from the isometric view point. But if you want to talk about a game that is immersive, massive and incredibly complex, look no further. You can get it on GOG for pennies too

A tip for cleaning. I've got several hundred Genesis games and only 1 dead cart out of all of them. What works well for me is rubbing alcohol with Q-tips and then rubbing the pins with aluminum foil.
