Re: The Retro PC Thread

actually the CDROM drive doesn't work. And neither do any of my spares apparently. It is a... no brand? I don't know. Very generic beige case. According to all the shit I deleted off of it, it used to be a networked PC in a dentist's office I guess. So yeah, I'll end up needing to install a working...

Re: The Retro PC Thread

I just finished a nice early 2000's build targeted at windows XP games. The following components were used. Case: Coolermaster Force 500 Reason: Local computer shop had them on sale for 19,- and wanted a new black case. PSU: Cooler Master GM G450M Reason: More then enough power, decent specs and pro...

Re: Gameport Controllers in a USB Port - Rockfire RM-203

The force feedback pro and a number of other joysticks abused the analog gameport interface to make it receive and transmit digital controler data by quickly toggling the on/off state of buttons and making the driver poll the gameport many times per second to read it. A kind of morsecode if you will...

Re: NES Audio/video problems

Hey flodder, good to see you hanging around here as well. Don't forget to drop by on tweakcraft once in a while ;)

Back to point, the NES motherboard components are pretty easy to source and replace.

Re: Worst Condition Consoles You've Ever Picked Up...

Damn, these all look grose. Here in Northern europe we don't have cockroaches. It also helps that our houses are not made of plywood and cardboard, so mouse infestations are uncommon. It's also pretty rare these days to even have a basement, so the only consoles/games you find that are bad condition...

Re: Hardware Vs Emulators

As for the emulator display issue, of which is more authentic, I have negated the whole pro's/con's depate using the following: A VGA -> RGB scart cable soft15khz for windows, which allows me to output a 15khz PAL/NTSC compatible signal using the original hardware's resolution. For example, my nes e...

Re: Emulation with old PC's help

It's hard to find good emulators for DOS these days. Things have come a long way since Nesticle was hot shit. That's a good point, however nesticle still is one of the better NES Emulators Meka works great on dos for Master System/Game Gear, CCS64 is great for C64, Kgen or Kgen 98 will work for gen...

Re: Sega Saturn resolutions

The higher resolutions were usable on the saturn, even the vga like non-interlaced ones. The trouble is that you loose almost all graphics chip functionality like scroll layers, etc and just end up with a glorified framebuffer, which incidentally also takes up more VRAM leaving less for sprites, tex...

Re: Explain to me this business mystery

Apple's business model is hardly a mystery. You are wondering why the sale price diverges so much from the actual production cost. A large chunk of that price is obviously profit. Apple is the sole producer of the iphone. And even thought its just a phone, in a market filled with other phones, it is...

Re: Pandora (handheld linux gaming console/computer)

I still can't believe that no one has made a Saturn emulator for this thing yet. Sega Saturn emulators are much harder to program than regular emulators. Even the windows version isn't %100. They (saturn emulators) are not harder to program, there's just a whole boatload of chips in the thing compa...
