I use that method on both my PSP1000s using CFW 6.60 PRO-C.

Very interesting - but how do you know if one is fake? All sources I see are shipped from Japan. I'm keen on giving this a shot... and the price isn't bad. Fingers crossed.
When I bought mine, I bought them from Amazon directly. As in, Amazon itself was the seller. What I got were legit CR-5400s.
Thanks very much! Seems likely that counterfeits have flooded the market. I'll see if any sellers are willing to send photos before shipping.
My goal would be to get about 128 GB of storage. I've got more than 32 GB of PSN content available now, plus it would be great to put a bunch of movies on the card. Apparently custom firmware also lets you rip physical games to memory - if I ever try that it would mean another 24 PSP games on top of that other content.
Hard to say, I was satisfied with 8GB of memory on PSP, since most games I had were on UMD; for Vita, I did start with a starter kit that included a 4GB card, but found out you will use up memory space pretty quickly - went and bought a 32GB card that I am still using now.
