It says 'default settings', but I think it should specify that people should be playing Original mode, version 1.00, which I presume is what that means? i.e., Not 1.01, 1.5, Black Label, Arrange, Novice, Maniac, etc.
Because, for example, when this was played for SoTM earlier in the year, everyone posted scores for 1.5 and Black Label and there were none for Version 1.0, which seems to be less popular than the later versions...

I don't think the 360 version has 1.0, only 1.5 and BL as downloadable content.
My highest score so far is 20 million-ish. I have trained on the second stage boss and can now comfortably beat her using 2 bombs. I can beat her using 1 bomb sometimes, and haven't mastered using no bombs yet. Her second form seems almost impossible without at least one bomb. After that I have been dying pretty early in stage 3.
I think I have the scoring pretty much figured out. But I have a question about the gems: do you have to stop shooting to pick them up when in Focus mode? And do you have to keep shooting to pick them up when in Rapid Fire mode? That seems that seems to be the case sometimes.
I'll post a real score later. This game is excellent.

1.0 had some issues and was rereleased in the arcades with a 1.5 update. Original is just one of three modes that you can choose when starting. Original, Maniac, and Ultra are the choices. They did the same with DFK which in its 1.0 version was massively broken.

1.5 most likely, it's the most widely available.

Yes, 1.5 - that is what I think everyone here has, be it 360, PCB or MAME. As KP said, Original refers to the default difficulty setting, it's original 1.5.
