You read right, I 1cc'd a CAVE SHMUP. My first and possibly my last.

I found a place that explained the scoring a little better than the Shmups forum thread did. Played my heart out and figured out all the ways to get more items and therefore had more chances to max out the item count. Had 3 blocks of health on the last 2 bosses. No fear on the final form of boss #2, and nailed it. I honestly can't believe it, the final bullet pattern must have grazed the hitbox many times.

No worries, you're not gonna see this happen again.

Even though we may have been duly smorked and castrated this year (again), I can proudly say I didn't dick around in all these games we played this month. Neither did my team. WTG guys.

Just died at 75m on stage 4-1. Your spot is safe from me, Mike. Nice work.

I appreciate you pushing me - everyone for that matter, but certainly you today.

In the end I realized the best bet is to play every level on level 3 and to activate my hyper sooner than I had been. I used to activate hyper every other stage. Now I activate it at least once every stage after the 1st.

I'm now able to get hyper twice on the lava/hell stage, right off the bat, shoot the rocks even if i'm only at 1,000 and no + yet, just blast those rocks and you hit 10K so quick.

Then, when your hyper is dying down (on all stages this is true) let it expire with a huge pile of stuff before you pick it up...yeah, you're leaving about 4-500K on the ground, but once your hyper is gone, you pick all that up and boom, your meter is back at 7-800, get a few more, and activate again.

I also realized the bonus stage is a run-killer. Way too difficult - a ton of points, for sure, but not if you can't stay healthy to get into hyper.

I would recommend playing that stage for fun - because it is hella fun and that boss fight is insane. It actually reminds me of Kroatoa in Jamestown with the path and getting pinched off and all.

Love this game.

Congrats to Donnie, Exed, and Doc as well for getting the ALL. It wasn't my focus this time around, but I certainly would have like to have had it regardless. Impressive feat, gentleman.
