No. They don't give additional shields instantly in maniac. Instead you have to collect enough of those blue medals. While the medals were 'chains' in original mode, in maniac they serve to fill a gauge at the bottom of the screen. Fill the gauge completely to get another 'shield up'. So those guys just help with some extra medals.

Gotcha, thanks.

Took a run just now and beat my score for original mode

As usual, nice work :)

I'm getting toward a 1cc on original mode. I've seen the last boss plenty of times, but I've yet to make it there with a sufficient stock of shields to survive. I'm getting better at dealing with devil rank in the earlier stages though, so if I can conserve 1-2 extra player stock I should get it.

Getting close to where I was when I last posted on the official scoreboard...before I stopped playing for some reason. Probably should've 1cc'ed it back then...but oh well.

And a meh Maniac run just to get on the board...

Hoping to jump back into this soon. I'm oddly enjoying Dragon Spirit though, so will have to a wait another weekend I think.

Impressive scores, all.

I fired this up last night on a mission. After a couple, sometimes very frustrating, hours, it happened...

Hooyah! 8) Stupid deaths in stages 3 and 4. And another avoidable one in stage 6 (should've used a shield), making for a huge sweat at the final boss. No more lives, no more shields, yet I somehow dodged its last barrage and finished it off! So kind of sloppy, but a 1cc is a 1cc. It wasn't as good a scoring run as the #2 score either. I was lagging about 500mil behind at that old score's game over spot. So theoretically, if I can avoid stupid deaths, I should be able to crack 9bil...

Well done! I really want to get a 1cc on this, though, I'm sure my score won't be that good for a while (if ever).

Tables updated, if I messed up let me know.

Actually got around to giving this a go again...and made some significant progress in the Maniac mode.

I'll have to play maniac a bit more. I had a great run going on normal yesterday, no miss until the 4th boss when I totally screwed the whole run when I lost my focus going for the tech bonus.

Yah. I hate when that happens...
Speaking of Tech Bonus, I just discovered something odd about stage 2. I'd always believed you wait for the 3 bits to drop, shoot them, and that's it. But if you wait a little longer, 3 MORE bits will drop. Shooting this 2nd set of 3 makes the "Tech Bonus" message appear on screen, and gives a slighter bigger bonus than if you shot only the 1st set. Odd because you still get some bonus points for just the 1st 3, yet I can't seem to get any 'partial' tech bonus on any other stage...
