Geeze dude, if you aren't even "scoring" yet, then I really need to step my game up! Very nice improvement!

Ok, I need to correct myself little bit that, yes I actually think also scoring in couple of ways: I mostly use the correct shot type and I always try to lift my focus shot finger to collect the gold. But that's mostly it. I say mostly because now that I think of it I do sometimes refrain bombing and wish for good luck just for the sake of keeping counters up :)

Shooting bosses and other bugs from extremely close range is not for me. And I guess it's something that's worth trying only when you actually aim to finish without dying at all or something like that..(?)

Yeah, I figured you were doing some scoring, since your score is pretty damn good!

The way I approach the game is more in chunks than in an overall approach. Stage 1 I find pretty boring if I am just cruising through, and since its so early in the run, I like to see just how high I can push the score. I get really aggressive and make sure to max the counter out, because worst-case, I can just restart if I get hit.

Stage 2 for me now, is pretty much the same thing, except it is a lot easier to max out the counter, so the game gets a little hectic. I do refrain a little though, as some enemies (The manta ray things that wrap shots around you in particular) bring a lot of risk to get the most points out of them. So, I am okay just doing em in early and losing some points there.

That was actually the majority of my scoring in my best run so far. Everything went right in the first 2 stages, so I played it safe and tried to keep my overall counter as high as possible, but didn't want to risk too much, since in BL, bombing is a big no-no (It knocks your counter harder than dying, unlike in 1.5).

Now, looking at what I want to do to beat that score, I'll need to take greater risks in a part of the game I feel most comfortable doing so. That is definitely NOT the 2nd half of stage 3, which I still find to be the riskiest part of the game. So, since I can't make good use of pushing the counter high in the first part of stage 3, I think I will still just play it safe there, and push really hard on stage 4, which has enough cancels that I can do pretty well without pushing myself too far. Downside, of course, is that screwing up here (and I screw up a lot) means I basically ran the whole game before knowing if the run was good or not.

So yeah, thats my approach. Either way, you are building that overall counter, but if you feel safe enough to take things into overdrive mode (or w/e it is called, max stage counter), then you can jump the amount of amber you get in a stage by probably 50%, just from shedding large gems from enemies. Doing it in stage 1 is both fairly safe, and very good, because that 50% amber increase is going to be in your overall counter for the entire game, whereas being risky on stage 5 for a few amber will lead to more frustration, and that bonus amber will only be in your overall counter for the rest of that stage, making it worth less overall.

I also need to focus on lanterns on stage 5, as they are worth a good amount, and end the game with a decent lives/bombs split, since the EoG bonus is a multiplier of those 2.

And just like both of you, I never bomb. I can't even remember the last time I used a bomb in the game outside of the Larsa fight.

I actually haven't totally avoided bombing. I tried it yesterday and today but it just so happens that I end up losing all my lives because overall counter gets too high (50k or something) for me to handle the increased difficulty, even if I otherwise manage to avoid impossible situations. Frustrated, then on the next run I bombed boss3 twice and boss4 once (and Larsa of course) and made this new record. So I think on my level I can still allow myself some bombing action. :) It's a thing worth constant reconsideration though.

And like you dunpeal, I started pushing the first level just for the sake of it. It became kind an obsession for me to always try to reach 50M mark. I cannot take it safe anymore and now suddenly it's hard to get past the 1st level and get to the actual game... not good at all.

What does it mean to focus on lanterns? How does one actually focus on them? Can you milk them somehow for extra gems or what? I have also previously read somewhere about greatness of lanterns in this game but haven't figured out what's the fuzz. I just shoot them. I guess. Or maybe I have missed them? Do lanterns shoot bullets?

The reason I don't bomb is its simply to late to, I have been hit and killed before I even realize what had happened lol!
Awesome score btw, I knew I couldn't stay above you more than a day lol!

You guys are kicking serious ass!

The lanterns themselves don't do anything too special (at least in Orig, they are essential to cancel bullets in something like Ultra), but they are worth more the more you destroy. I want to say they are worth like 40m if you get them all, the last one hitting like 1m-2m. Numbers may be off, but its a good boost to the score.

On my phone atm, scores will be updated tonight though. Keep at it! :D

Oh, and Panda, the Lx0 was Lives x Zero, just to keep track of the end-game bonus. Its not required, I was just personally doing it to make it easier to compare future runs. If you have no bombs and more than one life, and Larsa is about to die, suicide that shit for extra pointz!

Damn, erasing Panda's 200m score and replacing it with a 400m score felt good. Crazy improvement dude.
