I thought Life Force was part of the Salamander series rather than the Gradius series proper?

Isn't Life Force basically a remixed version of Salamander?

It's so confusing

yeah I thought it was basically a port of Salander that incorporated the Gradius power-up system.

Adventures of Dino Riki should be added.

Ha, same here! Pretty neat little game though, right?

Life Force is an odd and convoluted matter. There's Life Force, Life Force, and Life Force.

Salamander (Arcade) - the original arcade game with ports everywhere, including the Salamander Deluxe Pack. When released in arcades outside of Japan it was called Life Force, setting the stage for major confusion later.

Life Force (Arcade) - For some reason Konami redid Salamander with the Gradius power up system and replaced mechanical enemies with more organic ones, and called this new mess "Life Force" even though the name had already been taken (by non-Japanese arcade versions of Salamander, see above.) This game was only released in Japan and it's the "Life Force" you'll find on the Salamander Deluxe Pack.

Salamander (FC/NES) - The Famicom title by this name is a sort of hybrid of the two Japanese arcade games (mix of organic and mechanical levels like Salamander, Gradius power bar like Life Force) though it more closely resembles Salamander. For maximum confusion, yes, it was renamed "Life Force" for its North American release.

I was looking for a list and just decided to compile it for everyone. If there are any corrections that need to be made just post here.

That's a solid list there. Thanks for putting it together.

Of course, I'd be remiss if we didn't mention Section Z either. My Capcom fan-self would be invalidated if I forgot that.

Who said Heavy Barrel? That's more a run & gun than a shmup. There are some auto-scroll stages but that's in no way a shmup. Ikari Warriors & Commando could be shmups then too?

The list is also missing Silk Worm.

I did a bit more research, and I can NOT believe all the titles we all forgot. Chrishaha just mentioned *one* of them just now, Silk Worm.

In addition to that game, add these post haste!

Captain Skyhawk
Gyruss
Sky Kid
Starship Hector
Tale Spin
Thunderbirds
Thundercade
Twin Eagle

and I think we'll have all of them.
