I have been somewhat intrigued. What makes it the best?

I know that dsh has provided some insight but lemme just further elaborate on why its not only the best in the series but IMO one of the best 3D fighters and easily the most complete ever released.

Katsuhiro Harada and his Tekken Project team poured their hearts into this game. The largest roster ever had in a 3D fighter. About every fighter in tekken history makes their long awaited return (for those that have been MIA some quite some time). Harada kept his word and all DLC characters are free as well as additional battle stages. The music is excellent (if your into that particular genre). The roster is surprisingly well balanced given its huge size. The home conversions (on PS3 and 360) visuals are a damn good representation of its "System 359" arcade counter part (Tekken 6 home ports looked very inferior compared to the arcade version). And las but not least, the games netcode is perhaps the best ever used in a fighting game making online bouts as latency free as possible. A truly impressive improvement over Tekken 6's netcode.
It's truly a shame the game failed to meet its projected sales, but def recommend giving Tag 2 a shot... especially for $20 ;)

I'll probably get Tag 2 at some point. I remember when Hybrid came out I was really wowed by the visuals they had accomplished. If only that had had online play!
