What is your favorite "obscure" platform?

Post by racketboy »

Once I get a house -- hopefully in the next year, I hope to start collecting consoles again.
I've been browsing Wikipedia a bit the last few days and have been facinated with consoles like the Atari Jaguar, the PC Engine and a few others.

Anybody have any recommendations?

Yeah, the 3DO looks good too.
Any recommendations on a certain model?

There are all kinds of consoles that that I want.
PC-Engine is GOD. I NEED one.

Maybe a PC Engine FX too.

Don't know much about 3DO but I wouldn't mind owning one.

I'm also thinking about maybe getting a Neo-Geo CD system sometime since I already have Samurai Showdown 2 for it, heh.

...maybe an Action Max.

PC Engine

The PC Engine is GOD, but unless you read Japanese I'd stay away from the PC-FX. Only 1 shooter. Most are RPG or dating sims.

I get that, but except for 1 fighting game (if I remember right) and the shooter, you really need to understand Japanese or a massive amount of time. Almost all games are Anime related or Hentai 18+. I'm missing about 6 games for the system which I hope to find at Mandarake in Tokyo this fall.

Do any sites exist that host PC-FX games for my magic Engine Emu?

If you do buy the PC-FX be sure to pick up Zenki-Fx. The best beat-em-up on the console (one of the few as well) [image]. I would also recommend to pick up the Turbografx-16/PC-Engine for some pure 2-D goodness that was overlooked in the 1990s. Some awesome exclusives include: Air Zonk, Bonk's Revenge, Parodius Da!, Demon Castle Dracula X, Ys I and II, Lords of Thunder, Devil Crusher, and Bomberman 94.
