Re: Pokémon Go

So THIS happened tonight!

Image

YES! Previously an Eevee with over 300 CP to the crown jewel of my collection so far, a Pokémon that can stand with the best of them at the Gyms! (this one had Swift as second attack, by the way)

I went to my nearest Pokestop, set up a Lure Module, Lucky Egg, AND an incense and stayed there for the full 30 minutes, hatching, evolving, catching. I got enough XP for 2 more levels, and I'm halfway through level 14 now! I got 17 candy from a Psyduck Hatch, and I'm VERY close to getting him evolved! I also evolved a Venomoth and a Weepinbell so I'm super psy(duck)hed!

Tomorrow I'm going to the park that has 3 stops and 2 Gyms, and I hope to get out Saturday too. I am aiming to get as close as Level 20 as possible by the end of the weekend. This game simply rules.

Get a cheap smartphone like I did. I just got my phone 2 months ago w/ MetroPCS, and since I switched over from Verizon I got $50 off. They got some good deals right now. The app is free and you don't have to buy anything to get far, but I have just so I can get more eggs and XP.

No idea why but at 2am last night before flipping out the light I tapped on the game, funny enough that Bulbasaur was across the street from me and in range, so I nabbed it from bed. It had this yellowish-orange ring, took a few attempts of it swatting it away to get it but I did.

Hatched my first 10k egg and got a Kabuto and 38 candy for it. It's cp is severely lacking at only 250ish, but I am not at all about the fight. I am about the collecting

Ok, I ran ACROSS a Kabuto today, but was unable to tap on it fast enough. Still no 10k eggs yet.

But, in today's report, I did get a Drowzee from a 5k egg! The other 4 were repeats but you get lots of Stardust (around & over 1000) as well as increased candy amounts with hatches so get to it!

The highlight of today's action was the 3 stop church I was at and they all had fresh Lure Modules with tons of people, so I took an Incense of my own and caught whatever I could. That meant Rattatas and Pidgeys but that's quite all right. I got up to level 15 today, and they gave me a TON of items including new Hyper Potions!

I evolved a new Pidgeot that has a lot more power (took it from a Pidgey over 200 CP) and also did a few Rattatas for XP. I will be evolving a Doduo and a Squirtle when it is a better time. I'm also re-evolving a better Venomoth and even a Beedrill again when the time is better. I'm very close to level 16 now.

I also left my new Vaporeon at a L2 gym with a Snorlax. We'll see how long it lasts.

More tomorrow!

I hit Lv6 while I was out just catching anything I could, got a rhyhorn which is the most powerful thing I have so far, not that being around 120-130CP is a lot, or is it at lv6? I've never had one before, even in the old games, so that's cool.

Lvel 12, but I don't have anything with 600 CP or greater. My best is a 569 Jolteon, but I have a 314 CP Eevee I can't wait to evolve.

Some more information I dug up.

Check out this image here, it shows the Pokémon types that have higher HP. Good to consider for battles.

Also from Reddit:

It would seem that there is in fact a way to force an evolution of your Eevee. The Eevee Brothers from the original anime were named Rainer, Pyro, Sparky and they owned a Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon respectively. If you nickname your Eevee either Rainer, Pyro or Sparky, your Eevee will evolve into that desired Eeveelution!

Sparky = Jolteon

Rainer = Vaporeon

Pyro = Flareon

I have tried it on a few Eevees and so have friends, and we've seen a 100% success rate.

They suggest that you rename it, quit the app, and return so that the server picks up on the name change and NOT to rename it then evolve it right away. I have a 324CP Eevee that under the old theory would become a Flareon, but I need a Jolteon to finish my collection so I have already renamed it to Sparky and when I can get it evolved I will report back here.

As of right now, my Vaporeon is STILL at the Gym I placed it at this afternoon! Longest stint ever!

Alas, I bring my tale of Pokémon GO woe. Harken to me and giveth thy pity.

I actually did have a smartphone for about six months, which I bought sometime earlier last year. My husband and I had found a cell plan back then that was about $6/month, which we decided to give a try. It required smartphones, though, so we bought the Kyocera Hyrdos they were offering. We have since reverted back to dumbphones -- the carrier service was just terrible and the phones were kinda lousy -- but we kept the Hydros anyway. They've been slumbering in a drawer ever since.

I was having such a lousy day today that I thought to myself, all right. I am going to dig that Hyrdo out and I am going to make this work. I created a junk Gmail account. I wiped my the device. I updated all kinds of crap. I downloaded Pokémon GO. I worked through problem after problem -- the app not detecting me via GPS, the hanging on log-in, the not being able to catch a starter -- until finally I ironed everything out. I was doing it! I was playing Pokemon GO! Sure, I was doing it via wireless so my play would be very limited, but I could accept that. I like hanging out at libraries and stuff; I can fit this into my life.

But then. But THEN. The app can't detect the orientation of my phone. I download some kind of diagnostic tool and discover that my phone has an orientation sensor... but not a gyroscope.

I can't use AR mode.

Which is kind of the whole point.

Alas. Pokémon GO shall pass me by. I'll get over it, but I'm hella bummed right now.

Just so you know Key, my phone doesn't have a gyroscope either. But I'm still playing. I understand your situation with only being on wi-fi but not being able to see them on the camera is far better anyway because it eats up less battery, and never before have I had to charge this phone as much before.

As of right now the servers are down, unofficial reports claim that they were hacked or DDoSed somehow. This is a bummer. I was hoping to work some more on it today.

Yeah, I only think the AR functionality is fun for taking pictures. Outside of that I turn it off for catching because it becomes a million times easier.

Key, I know it sucks that you can't get the full experience. Regardless, you are still awesome and we all love ya!

As for my pokemon experience lately. I made it to level 15 and went to a wedding. Someone dropped a lure in the reception and chaos ensued. I almost caught a Jinx but it ran away. Curses! I have a few pictures that I will post at some point.
