XCOM 2 thread of the game

Post by noiseredux »

I know Popo and JMustang already started playing this. I had decided I was putting off and waiting for a sale. Then there's been so much talk on Idle Thumbs I got interested... and found a decent sale.

Downloading now.

Bwahahaha!

I definitely recommend you play with the Tutorial enabled for your first game. There's some story pieces in those first couple missions that are important; the other story beats in the game build off of that. You can skip it on future games because it does take too long to get through (and skipping it means if you do well you can come out of the first mission with four squaddies).

Soldier customization includes being able to select gender at any point, so you can go the all Valkyrie squad like I did. I never touched soldier customization in XCOM1 but did spend a decent amount of time in this game to give them hair styles I liked or sync up all their armor styles for a consistent look on the top tier armor.

Learn how concealment works. Nothing feels worse than breaking concealment unintentionally.

You don't know what fear is until you see the new alien in the second month. I won't spoil the surprise.

It's a game that really does build tension well and you really start to care about your squad.

I haven't started naming my guys yet. But I'm sure I will.

I did the tutorial and then two missions after that.

I'm on the final mission, its been a casual Veteran run, some save scuming even. Next time the slightly harder difficulty and iron man... I'm sure there will be many painful deaths

Codex or the snaking things?

After 5 hrs of play, I'm considering starting over knowing now what I know. This game is not easy. Gawd, it makes Enemy Unknown feel like a quaint cakewalk, haha!
