Try this link, it goes to a revised edition which is new holding all 4 books with updates:
https://www.amazon.com/Minecraft-Comple ... 0545685192

The preview below has some dude who took some pics of the inside of the book to give you a feel how it is laid out. It's kid friendly but adult friendly too as it's easy to get around and see examples. In a way almost like an old school strategy guide of sorts.

oooh it's THAT set of books! I see those at Target, etc all the time. Actually the Essential Handbook looks like exactly what I'm looking for! I'll prob grab that ASAP and then consider the other books if it seems like I'm sticking with the game and they would really come in handy. Thanks!

I never stuck with it long enough a couple years back so I never scraped up the other 3 volumes. I'd probably just rather use the website you can pop a word into and get the breakdown of it at this rate, or wait for a used copy of that all in one to show up at the store. My only gripe is that since it goes classic gaming guide in style you don't get an index of easy access crafting laid out in the little books (not sure if the big one does it though.)

thanks for chiming in on this thread and giving me ideas, guys. Last night I built a couple of doors (had to look up the recipe) and put one on my house, and then used the second to make a tunnel down below my house/mountain. I did what Tanooki mentioned about making a sort of spiral staircase and just kept heading down. Eventually I came to a opening which revealed a giant cavern way below the mountain/house. So I'll be back to exploring that later.

I also went up and added torches to all sides of my phallic beacon so that I'll be able to find my home easier. Oh, and glass. I figured out glass which was, yeah, really easy to do if you think about it for a half a second. Glass is awesome. I put a couple of windows in my house and then made a big skylight which is a cool way to see the day turn to night.

I really didn't think I'd actually enjoy Minecraft, but it has admittedly been a very relaxing way to unwind.

You made glass....but did you make....WINDOW PANES?! /cue dramatic music

To get a good idea about what you can make and how things work, I suggest try playing around in creative mode. You can select any and all items available and gives you a good sense of what you can make. There are enchanting and alchemy tools, repair and custom naming tools. Saddles for mounts and so much more!

Yeah there is glass and it can be used for a lot of recipes like for glass bottles and window panes. Window panes only can be used on walls, but not ceilings so glass is needed for skylights.

Noise, noise, noise, seriously...build a fence and a whole bunch of ladders. Go a short distance from your base and fence off an area that is at least 20x20. Then dig the whole thing out straight down to the lowest level, placing ladders as you remove each level. If you find gems or coal in the wall, great, mine it out and replace it with the blocks you're digging up. If you reach a cavern, mine sideways to a drop down point and build yourself a ladder back up to your main one. But remove and store every building material you get from the hole you make. You'll find something for sure.

I RP my mine. Double doors leading down a long set of stairs with platforms and doors leading into shafts. Signs signifying the levels, torches at constant intervals. Warning signs to wear a hard hat.

Yes I am a dork, but one needs standards!
