This one is for the shmup lovers out there. Tumiki Fighters is a horizontal shmup with a bizarre and fun mechanic that allows you to attach the remains of your downed opponents to your ship. You then get their added fire power and can use their parts as a shield. The game also has a unique visual style of pastel colored block toys that you battle. The controls are spot on and the twist of being able to grab your opponents after you have gunned them down makes this stand out from your typical shmup.

I have a few of these bookmarked to go in my browser game thread.

The one download game (Red Eclipse) is new to me. It looks like it could become interesting if the developers are able to keep pace with the feedback they get as planned.

GIRP definitely belongs in the browser section. It's a blast.

Happy April Fool's Day!

Nothing like a game about the X-men running a brothel to celebrate.

Review here.

This is the latest game from Christine Love who garnered a lot of critical praise for her interactive fiction, Digital: A Love Story. This is another interactive fiction "game" where you are a new teacher in a school that allows you to spy on the social networking interactions of your students to make sure they are behaving well.

I've only played a few minutes and can't decide if I like it yet. I don't like to text or use social networking sites much in real life, so I find the basics of it kind of annoying as you constantly get alerts about online updates to the characters facebook-like programs, but I like the anime style and it shows promise in some of the early writing for the main character. We'll see...

Terra: The Legend of the Geochine
https://www.digipen.edu/?id=2832&proj=23877
(Size: 283 MB, or more if you need the Source Engine)

It's hard to believe this one is free. The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is really original. It's like a mix of a 3rd person action game with one of those old fashioned wooden labyrinth games with the steel marble inside. I highly recommend you check this one out. It's a student game from the DigiPen Institute, which has led to several other fantastic indie games already (see Synaesthete and Igneous).

Terra uses Valve's Source mod, so you will need Steam to play it and the installer will put the game into your Steam library as well as download the relevant Source tools.

Digipen was also the source of Narbacular Drop, the game that inspired Portal.

Oh that's right! I forgot that was a DigiPen project too. Valve was smart to hire them.

Koumajou Densetsu 2: Stranger's Requiem
(Size: 143 MB)

This doujin game is an otaku's wet dream that places Touhou characters in a Castlevania universe and gives them voices from some of Japan's most famous seiyuu, including Eri Kitamura, Satomi Sato, Aya Endo, Rina Sato, Miyuki Sawashiro, Haruka Tomatsu.

For those of you that don't speak weeaboo and didn't understand a word I just said....

TRANSLATION: This is an indie game from Japan that is like Castlevania. It has voice work from some of Japan's most well loved voice actresses.

Since it's hard to navigate Japanese sites if you don't know Japanese, here is the direct link to the game download

This is just a trial of the full game (which you can buy in the linked image), but we see so few of the indie games from Japan here in the states, that I thought I would introduce you to this one, since it's high quality and a lot of fun.
