Radio Shack trade-in deal

by Overload Sun Jan 26, 2014 7:35 pm

Radio Shack are currently running a promotional trade-in event, offering $5 each for portable, working electronics, maximum of 5 items. This includes games. I just traded 4 copies of Underground Pool on the DS (of which I have many, and can't seem to sell) as well as a Sony PSP accessory that lets you control media, for $25 store credit, which I used to pick up a soldering iron, solder, portable cell-phone power bank, and warranty for the iron. Came out to 84 cents. The store I went to had xbox controllers and what I think were PSN cards, and I'm pretty sure some sell games.

How is their iron? I haven't heard many good things about it, but I may unload some stuff with them, too.

yeah getting $5 for some garbage 360 or DS games sounds like a great deal.

I'm not sure if they have a fancier one, I just have the 40 watt cheapie. It works ok, but the tips do get eaten up pretty quickly. I've had to resharpen or replace them a few times in mine.

I've never soldered before, so I just bought the cheapest one. Gets the job done.
They do have a $25 one that heats and cools in seconds.

If I don't do much soldering, would it suffice just fine? It'd be for quick touch ups or a mod or two.

Can the credit be used towards any online purchases?

There's actually a series of soldering irons and other tools called "Pro-Line." When you get into the higher price ranges then it's Weller.

As long as you have a steady hand and don't cook anything by dwindling too long on a part, yeah. Just keep the tip clean. It's all I've been using for a while.
