But this line of thinking shows a lack of respect for the unique qualities God has built into boys

Sounds very scientific
Overmedication is a legit issue though, dont get me wrong.

Well I wasn't quoting " god" and am not tripped up when someone uses religious language in their colloquial expressions. I don't even believe that faith was the basis for the more salient points. If a mention of god negates any document we should immediately throw away our money;-). If this isn't the point you were making please clarify and leave out the god stuff for another subject.
Was the Usa today article worthy of a read? I thought it was the better of the two sources. What did you think of the 500 % increase in Ritalin usage over the last decade? How about the lack of recess and the focus on word based learning( the least effective for boys)
The poor graduation rates?
Thanks for the input. always interesting to see what other people focus on.

I am not the best person to speak of this as I never cared about sports, cars, socialising, competition and all that stuff so I wasnt exactly the average boy I guess. But its pretty clear that nowadays every one seems to have some "abnormality". ADHD, depression, asperger, OCD and so on. And the solution to those is always in the pills that make certain people more wealthy. I doubt there are many people who could actually be labeled as normal if you apply all the statistics and medical/psychological stuff that is in use today.

I think of playing video games the same way as others think of reading a book, or watching a movie. It's not in the same caliber, but what is? It's a past time. People do this type of crap when they're bored.

"Why do you read so many god damn books?"
"Why do you watch sports all the time?"
Why do I play video games?

Hey mrs writer woman, sorry to burst your bubble but here is America's future: http://www.businessinsider.com/youth-unemployment-oecd-2011-9?op=1 (btw it's 51% now in Greece, this is a bit old)

The American empire is in decline, the American dream is dead cause easy to get jobs are a thing of the past. If your job can be described as a routine, you will be replaced by a machine, and if not you will still probably be replaced by a sweat shop in China or India.

Till the standard of living in those countries rises to a degree where they become major consumers, we are kind of fucked. Only investment in newer and newer technology can save our ass, but that will still not provide jobs for zero to medium skilled people (no point in ipads selling like crazy all over the world if none of them getting made in the US).

The only solution would be either Brazil's example (huuuge protectionism) or Germany's (open market in your country's strongest sectors to help exports, but protectionism in your country's weak sectors to fuel domestic consumption and thus keep unemployment low even if it's against free market rules).

I am sorry, I refuse to believe that someone would willingly live with his parents. Perhaps the biggest problem is that the world of today can't provide young people the quality of life it provided to their father's. As for the girls, well since for so long they used to be stepped on by men, they feel inclined to grab their chance and finally do the best they can do, cause finally society allows it. Good for them :).

As for this writer, please lady go read twilight.

Thank you! Back in my parent's days, you could graduate (or even drop out of) high school, get a low end job, and move out.

You can't do that anymore. Even a full time, minimum wage job is not enough to live on your own, and most jobs that young people are getting today are part-time, minimum wage jobs.

LOL. Blowhard pundits up to their usual shenanigans.

I'm unmarriable only because I'm already married and you're not supposed to do that twice. Joe, on the other hand, seems quite divorceable. And I think it should be highlighted that spouting bullshit on TV isn't exactly what anyone would define as manly work.

No argument from me on these points.

As was the case with my initial post, I am mostly interested in the circulation of this argument as truth and the effects of that circulation rather than the veracity of the argument itself.

Gaming is just the modern day scapegoat for all of society's ills. It's basically in the same boat rock music was in a few decades ago.
