Games Beaten: 2013 2012 2011 2010

I liked about 3/4 of Freedom Planet, but the first stage and the last couple levels of the game were not my thing. I posted more about it in the thread for the game...

Borderlands 2 on Vita is as surprisingly competent and impressive as it is buggy and frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who could play it on another platform, but if you beat it once before and want to try it on a portable, well this will do the trick. Just prepare to sink 30+ hours into the thing, as it is the kind of game that won't let go once it gets its hooks into you

On an interesting note, I have now beat Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (along with a good chunk of DLC stuff) all over the course of 2014. I guess it is safe to say I love the series.

Six games to go...

If you're coming down to the wire you can get Akalabeth for free from GOG; that game can be beaten in less than an hour.

I have a list at the ready of short games, but I purposefully don't want to make it seem like I cheesed my way to 100 at the end

Fortunately, Borderlands 2, Sunset Overdrive, and the behemoth Dragon Age Inquisition will all be in the last 15 and are all decently long...so I don't feel as bad about playing some shorter games as well. If I can still get in 1-2 games of 5-10+ hours and a few shorter ones between now and the end of the year, I will feel like it was a good run at the end.

:D

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (Wii) is a simple, straightforward 2.5D platformer punctuated by "un-skippable" cut scenese, 30-second loading screens, and inane minigames. It is incredibly, ridiculously easy, but "completing" all of the games 25 levels is mildly challenging. For a budget Wii title based on a 1970 made-for-TV movie, however, it is better than it has any right to be, and I ended up enjoying it.

This was my first EDF experience, and I loved it. Big thanks to those who have suggested trying it over the years, I think I can be safely counted as a convert to the series. I am gonna hunt up some others in the new year :)

Five games to go...

The EDF games are hilariously bad. The fun B-grade cheese kind of bad.

Games Beaten 2014:

1. GTA V(360)
2. Brothers(PSN)
3. Infamous(PS3)*
4. Infamous 2(PS3)
5. Remember Me(PS3 PS+ Freebie)
6. Shadow of the Colossus(PS3 HD Collection)*
7. Watch Dogs(PC)
8. Aliens Colonial Marines(360)
9. Titanfall(PC)
10. Battlefield 4(PC)(Hard)*
11. Adventure(Atari 2600)
12. Doom(Xbox)
13. Beyond Two Souls(PS3)
14. Killzone(PS3 KZ Triology)
15. Killzone 2(PS3 KZ Triology)

Great graphics everything else was pretty bland though. Still hate KZ gunplay everything is so inaccurate and the move to only being able to carry one main weapon at a time sucked. Sure you get a permanent side arm with infinite ammo in place of a second weapon slot but it was so slow that it just dragged the game out whenever you had to resort to it.

i have about 100 PS3 games, 10 PS1 games, 35 Vita games, 280 Steam games, and around 50 xbox 360 games. also around 30 genesis games currently. i am going to TRY REALLY HARD to not buy a single game next year (arcade purchases notwithstanding) and actively participate in the 2015 thread. i need to chip away at this backlog. i may fire up the backloggery account for this purpose.

I hope you do! Although I find Backloggery to be more of a burden/mental block in getting the backlog worked on than an actual help.

Games Beaten: 2013 2012 2011 2010

All three of these games were new to me, and my god all three were fantastic.

I will admit to more or less writing off the CvS series after my first and previous foray into the series was with CvS2 on the Gamecube a few years back, as I found that game's arcade mode to be both too easy and relatively uninteresting and wasn't really impressed with the experience as a single player game. By contrast, this game managed to provide a better challenge and, I thought, a more streamlined and fluff-free interface. I now want to compare it to the DC port...

Fatal Run is a 32-level racing game that was a 7800/2600 exclusive and is kind of like a cross between Road Rash and Outrun, though not as good as either of those. You drive from city to city as quickly as you can, with the hook being that you are delivering medicine and the faster you go, the more people you save and the more cash you get to spend on upgrades. Also, at the end, your success yields a space shuttle launch, because 1990. The game is on the repetitive side, but it is also pretty straightforward and built well to pick up and play a few levels at a time over several sessions (there's a password system). It is certainly one of the more obscure yet surprisingly solid games for the system.

I spent pretty much all afternoon and evening today mainlining Light Crusader. It's a shorter RPG as the genre goes - it took me about eight hours start to finish - but it is a really beautifully done isometric action-RPG by Treasure, the same folks who of course did some of the system's best known work in Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier. If you enjoy the technical work done in those titles (specifically the audio and graphics), there's a lot to enjoy in this one. Unfortunately the story is dreadfully cliche and the ambitious physics-work yields some frustrating gameplay moments, but by in large this game is just a FUN experience and one that I found sucked me in and pushed me to keep going deeper down into the dungeon.

100 is now squarely in my sights :)
