I'll probably check out Dear Esther when it comes out. Never played the HL2 mod, so I'll be going in fresh. Heard it's much more of an experience than a game with a capital G. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I'm planning on picking up Dear Esther when it releases tomorrow. I never played the original mod, but I like the look of the upgrade and the experiential gameplay sounds like something right up my alley.

Dear Esther looks cool, but $10 for an hour and a half game with no replayability is a bit steep.

Heaven Variant

If you were a fan of Einhander on the original Playstation, I suggest you keep an eye out on Heaven Variant. Watch the trailer and you'll see why:

Wow, Heaven Variant looks really good. I'll be all over that when it comes out. I actually like how the voice acting does such a good job of mimicking the cheesy voice work from games like that in the late 90s. From what I saw in the trailer, the game seems to be doing a really good job of recreating the whole atmosphere of Einhander. Consider my interest peaked!

Ravaged

Image

Indie games are getting graphically better and better looking all the time. Ravaged has a team of developers that formerly worked on AAA titles like Battlefield 2 and Frontlines, but have now struck out on their own. Hopefully they have some innovative gameplay ideas to go along with the fancy graphics.

Sigh.... That looked cool until "online multiplayer...first person shooter...set in a post apocalyptic world...".

Im understanding that every generation has a genre that gets done to death, i just happen to have no interest in this one...and it seems to be going on longer than every other game fad in history.

Toren

Image

I wrote about Toren in my "Indie Watch 2011" thread, but I'm still eagerly awaiting it because it looks so much like Ico. They just released a new trailer that you can view by clicking the image above. In Toren, you play a princess trapped inside a tower who is trying to escape.

This looks like it will be a really fascinating first person puzzler with some psychedelic MC Escher-esque art.

ORION: Dino Beatdown

DINOSAURS AND JETPACKS!!!

Some indie games try to be artistic advances in the medium, but this game humbly just tries to be awesome. Imagine if Turok and Tribes had a super cool baby.
