So a little over a year ago, a prototype cart for the NES version of SimCity was found. Just recently, the ROM was released for download. You can play it on anything that supports MMC5 (Everdrive N8).

Re: SimCity NES Prototype ROM released!
This was a really great find and it gives me hope some other long lost prototypes out there will get dumped.
Re: SimCity NES Prototype ROM released!
Same here.
I still hold out some tiny sliver of hope the retail completed but never released PC to SNES conversion of Wing Commander II surfaces. Long story short, unlike the WC1 game this one was done on 1 cart and converted far more successfully with the voices, smooth flight, and other good things intact. PONY from Japan was the publisher with Americans developing the game for them, and when it was done and shipped to them, something happened like PONY folding or it was too late in their minds to bother with CDs on the horizon and it slipped into the vapor and lost ever since.
I'm hoping some old Japanese dude finds it one day and just sells it to someone with more open and forward thinking and it appears.

Re: SimCity NES Prototype ROM released!
It is an amazing read I bookmarked as it's a nice piece of history. I regret that I tinkered a bit with it on the header and got no differing response from it. I was told it's likely some bank switching bug in the MMC5 code in most emulators since few are dead accurate like MESEN is which does play it right. I hope this is cured but if not, it does work if you can muddle around the setup busted menus because in play it works.
