Sega Forever - New Sega Sub Service

Post by Jagosaurus »

So there's been rumors surrounding this & Sega's 2017 "comeback." First solid evidence I've seen all gathered here:

https://youtu.be/40T48L6FMsE

All speculation but this seems to add up.

It would be very slick to have cloud saves across PC, Consoles, Mobile... if mobile, I'd just run it off an Adroid box to my TV personally (not to be confused with an official Android TV).

Really hoping the Saturn piece with the mention of Virtua Cop & Panzer Dragoon is true. Both the Saturn & PD deserve more love.

Again, nothing 100% but thought I'd start a thread to discuss.

If they gave me new SMS, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast games on PC I'd be all for it.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in a subscription service, but my interest is piqued.

If they are doing a subscription service, I wonder if a western version of PSO2 would finally be tossed into that pot.

I am with you on this! Yes I may have all the rare Saturn games, but that doesn't mean having an all in one service isn't awesome. No avid gamer disillusionment from me!

I think overall it's a cool idea. It sounds like you can buy a classic game for a normal cost... say $2.99 (what Sonic 2 is on Google Play). Then pay additional for a sub for that enables Cloud saves.

Worth noting, the current Square retro RPG games support cloud saves but they run $15-$20 each. So lower up front here with a monthly sub seems likely.

There was a mention of ads in the screenshot. If I pay for a game at all (even without your sub service), I don't want ads period.

Let's let look the official pricing & structure before we determine who their target audience is. Does the casual cell phone gamer really care about saving their progress in Sonic? Seems this would be aimed more at retro enthusiasts who are likely already emulating. But..... if this is on PS4/XB/PC/Mobile, now you've added the ease of use across multiple devices and that could draw in that "non-casual" crowd. We'll see how it plays out.

A smart move of Sega's part if they do this right. The entire software and tech industry as a whole is moving to a cloud based and/or mobthly subscription model. It absolutely makes sense for them in particular with a software library only, on other platforms.

Addition:
If it really does include Saturn games, I'm assuming the selection will be limited or they'll be PC only. It's unlikely they magically solved SS emulation woes enough to push those games out to mobile.

The two Saturn games he mentioned - Virtua Cop and Panzer Dragoon, had PC releases (well and R-zone). I do hope they made their own Saturn emulator for Android.

Hi guys,

I am campaigning for a REBOOT of the Panzer Dragoon series, especially due to love for the SAGA episode.

This project is complimentary to the REVIVAL petition which was about existing games.

So basically, I am finalizing a new petition in which I give sugestion of what would be a great new Panzer Dragoon world: an ACTION RPG game in an open world, in this rich lore/world that is Panzer Dragoon.

The petition will soon be live at this address
http://www.panzerdragoonworld.com/

In the meantime, you can already support me by

Please guys, we need you to help spreading the word about this. New generations need to know this fantastic world created 20 years ago. And it wouldnt be hard to make it beautiful with today's console/PCs !!

Thank you
