I agree on underdog systems 100%.

Reportedly on Rayman...

Jag version:
- game originally developed for the Jag, ported elsewhere although release dates are close
- displays at higher resolution
- twice as many onscreen colors
- no loading

PSX version:
- some noticeable areas are removed
- sliding area oddly added that is very difficult
- CD music
- some additional SFX
- additional parallax scrolling in some areas

I've only played PS1 port so no confirmation on all those from me. Seem to both have their strengths with Saturn version somewhere in the middle of these.

Iron Soldier 2 would be my first game to try if I'd gotten one... or if I eventually do. Cart version removes some cutscenes in CD version, but gameplay the same IIRC.

Speaking of the CD compatibility, just to clarify any potential confusion, there are not currently any in-progress updates to add compatibility with Jaguar CD ISOs. The CD compatibility being worked on is to use the SD cart with the CD hardware add-on as it currently won't work when plugged into the CD unit's cartridge slot.

I was a bit confused about that at first, so I figured I'd mention it just in case anyone else was confused.

Oh man. That's no biggie.

So currently, CD images (commercial & homebrew) are working off the device, right?

No, CD images - both commercial and homebrew - will NOT work with the SD cart.

Gotcha. I misread that obviously.

Version 2 or ODE in the future! :)

There is still hope for it though. He stated no promises, but has plans for CD game compatibility in a future update and says it's even likely.

Not a deal breaker if not, but would be so cool.

Oh, sweet, I hadn't see that Tweet. I was just going by what's on the AtariAge forums, and the last thing I saw there was that there was some major issue with the CD emulation that wouldn't be resolved any time soon. Glad to see that there's some hope!

My Jaguar SD cartridge came in the mail today, and I spent a bit testing it out with Doom and Rayman. It works great! The menu isn't as pretty as you'd see on an Everdrive, but it gets the job done beautifully, and the games run no problem. There's no convoluted SD card set up, either; just drag and drop and ROMs, pop the SD card into the cart, and you're ready to go. It'll work no matter how much or how little you organize your ROMs. At around $150, it's not cheap, but if you're a Jaguar enthusiast like me, it's definitely a worthwhile purchase.

This is the type of thing that makes the Jaguar SD cart so appealing. The homebrew community is just amazing.

They're (Reboot + others) working on Doom patches expected to include:

- added music ..... WHAT!? Trying at least
- better save function (keep items, health, etc)
- True strafing (versus using B IIRC) via shoulder - see re-released 6 button controller released recently
- Spiderdemon added back in

https://atariage.com/forums/topic/28732 ... /#comments

We'll see how this progresses. Could be an impressive feat. Looks the music was crushing the bus bottle necks initially.

Does this cart just play .jag files? Most of the ROMs I've found are .j64 files.

I don't have the flash cart yet, but I want to be prepared.
