That one went over my head. Looks like chicks made of pipe cleaners and an eraser. Is there a joke here that I don't get?

A bit of trivia,

When using the RetroFreak Gear Converter, besides getting a Master System to Mark III adapter to play Master System games, I also found that a Master Gear Converter can fit into the Game Gear slot, and you can play SMS games that way as well.

You'll need a pass-thru Genesis cart though, as the RetroFreak Gear Converter can't quite fit into the systems cart slot when the MGC is connected to it.

It wouldn't be SEGA if you didn't have to stick a bunch of plastic shit together.

Not sure what a Genesis pass through cart is?

So normally this single adapter plays M3, SMS, & GG... correct?

And you found another interesting way to boot SMS games.

A cheat cartridge/region converter cart can act in that fashion.
As I said, I needed something like that as I couldn't otherwise get the whole contraption to fit in the RetroFreak's cart slot.

Yes.
With regard to that top slot in this 3-in-1 adapter, you'd need a Mark III to SMS converter for Master System games. SMS carts won't fit otherwise.

And you found another interesting way to boot SMS games.

Were you kind of playing this back in your mind for it to make sense? Hopefully you're all caught up now. :P

So you need the M3/GG converter, then a M3 to SMS pinout converter. Interesting. Does it support SMS ROMS off SD w/o any of this?

Lol, yes playing back to confirm. Meant to put "?"

If you're going to use the RF's 3-in-1 adapter to play SMS games via that top slot, yes.

Something like this would work,

Of course, that's not the only way to play SMS games on the RetroFreak. You could eliminate that 3-in-1 adapter from the equation altogether.
Again, I was just pointing out another way in which it could be done.

FYI, other options (but not limited to) for SMS games:

Just to add,
you don't need a Mark III to SMS converter with the Retron 5's own 3-in-1 adapter. That top slot is designed for SMS carts.

Does it support SMS ROMS off SD w/o any of this?

Haven't tried it. It could well do.

Yeah SMS roms work fine, so do Mark III, and Game Gear....and SG-1000. Just like you don't need a Famicom->NES converter to necessarily play NES games if you're just going through roms instead. But yeah due to the way the Retro Freak works it doesn't really matter how you get SMS games inserted into the Genesis/MD slot just as long as you're able to do so and it doesn't involve something like Game Genie or Sonic & Knuckles where the Retro Freak will end up dumping the roms of those first instead. If it's something like a simple pass through pretty much whatever will work.

Another bit of trivia. Emphasis on trivia. :P

This time in regard to the Sega Card based games.

Even though there's a dedicated slot on the side for the Sega Card games on that RetroFreak Gear Converter, you can as well get those games to work as in the pic below.
