If you look at Double Fine's website, they have extra rewards beyond the $10,000 mark that is the maximum on Kickstarter. Ron Gilbert is featured in a couple.

Chris Pereira at 1UP wrote an interesting essay about how those in the press should disclose if they donated so as to avoid a conflict of interest when the game comes out and suddently sites that would need to review it have funded it.

I don't really see a conflict of interest, because you "investing" in the game on Kickstarter is so that it will get made, not so that it will make money. If Kickstarter-funded Game X makes $10 or $1,000,000 for Tim Schafer, all I get is the "reward" for donating. So how does this affect their review of the title? Me giving it an A or and F doesn't affect my bottom line.

This sounds pretty cool. I would love to see another point and click game by them. I think Tim Schafer's strengths are more in characters and story than gameplay from the games I have played that he's involved in. Even though I loved Brutal Legend there are ways they could have expanded the gameplay a bit. Point and clicks are perfect for him. If I can get something as awesome as Day of the Tentacle was, I'll be happy

The fact this has received so much money is mind-blowing and pretty awesome.

Not to be that guy, but I wish Capcom would do this with Mega Man Legends 3. They'd never be that cool though  .

You'd think it would occur to them to try or at least explore the idea, given their recent collaborative efforts with fans.
The PSTV is amazing.

You'd think any independent developer with a cult following would've thought of this earlier. Hell, can you imagine if Sega put the Dreamcast 2 up on this thing? The fact that they don't have to provide pledgers an investor's stake (in the form of shared return) makes Kickstarter an incredibly profitable to raise funds.

And as a bonus, they'd kill off a pointless Sonic character for every $1,000,000 donated

It appears Obsidian is jumping on the bandwagon.
