One could argue true competition is about giving it your all and going your hardest from the beginning, not just trying to beat the guy next to you.
Mitchell only played because someone else beat him, and stopped playing the moment he got the high score (essentially suiciding).
It could be argued it makes for a more entertaining story as the high score jumps between challengers. It could also be argued that Billy Mitchell is a complete attention whore. Although the irony is not lost on me that I'm posting on a public forum about him, giving him the attention he so desperately desires.
