Why EA... why must you take every decent game franchise and find a way to ruin it?

How is not adding something ruining it, I don't remember the other NBA Jams having a tag mode. Most of the complaints I have heard in this thread so far are them not updating the game enough, Nba Jam ps2 and NBA jam 99 were terrible because of the changes.. I for one want it as bare bones as the originals, I am a retro gamer I don't need online play or tag mode. The old ones are still good without it why not the new.

The old ones (NBA Jam, NBA Jam T.E.) had TAG mode. It is what made the game great on a console as a single player game. Otherwise, you had to trust in the AI of the CPU.

Wait the arcade also had a Tag-mode option. I played the SNES and SCD ones as a kid but now or days I play the ones in Midway collections. I tried my older versions and they do have a tag mode option, I guess I never paid attention to it, I am not one for changing options much.

I just use my CPU partner as someone to pass to right before I go up and do the alley oop.

I believe in the actual arcade the operator could turn TAG on or off, but the default was off.

In the home ports, if you never changed the options than that means you also left CPU assist on, which made it so that the computer would help you not suck so much (e.g. dynamic difficulty). This was also usually off in the arcade version of the game (actually, I'm not sure it was an option there at all). The difficulty was also set to "normal" - most arcades had it set to "hard." So, never changing anything in the home port did not give you an arcade-perfect set of rules. You had to mess with them to make it arcade-perfect. If you weren't going to play with someone else, you really needed TAG mode.

In honesty I've played the arcade version very little, and always with someone else so TAG mode was not an issue. In the home ports, if you didn't use TAG mode, you couldn't position your players as easily, the CPU teammate would move to places on the court that caused problems or poor positioning and/or would get in constant pushing matches, and the general poor AI of your teammate would make the game considerably less fun (in my estimation). The reason NBA Jam is such an awesome single player game on consoles is because TAG mode gives you the ability to fully control every member of your team on the fly, which is rare in most sports titles. It kills the problem of frustrating CPU teammates and gives you a chance to win or lose on your own merits....

Yeah. But sometimes when the CPU starts cheating, your AI-partner will start missing easy dunks/shots and all that :?
